We just got some great news out of the Warcraft Direct, as Blizzard announced an exciting new type of mount coming in patch 11.1!
The goblin capital, Undermine, is the location for patch 11.1. It’s a big city and it seems it also has some pretty wide and well-paved streets. It would have to, considering we’re going to be getting our own custom drag racer-type mount to drive around in!
D.R.I.V.E.: A Functionally Customizable Mount
The car will be “fully customizable”, as was announced on stream, but the level of customization is more anything what we’ve seen so far in the game. We’ve seen how our drakes and later the Delve dirigible can be customized already. However, those are purely cosmetic changes. What we’ll be getting with the new Undermined mount is actual stats to go with those customizations!
That’s right, our new drag racers will have stats like grip, acceleration, and more! We’ll get to choose what to focus on and build our own personal version of the mount. In the roadmap we can see a feature named D.R.I.V.E., and we’re pretty certain it’s referring to the mount and customization feature for it. We’re going to guess there will be specific upgrades, quests, and similar related to it, as we keep enhancing it throughout the patch cycle.
The Downside
Unfortunately this awesome and highly customizable new mount will only be available in the new patch zone. It seems the goblins were unable to make the tires and engine well enough to function outside of their capital city, which presumably has some extremely well-paved and wide roads! Or perhaps the mount is just too awesome for the open road. This little detail leads us straight to our big piece of speculation.
The First Dynamic Ground Mount?
While this was not announced, we’re guessing this may be the very first mount to incorporate Skyriding-like features. Dynamic ground mounts were datamined back in Dragonflight’s patch 10.2.5, but nothing has come of them yet. When Dragonriding was first introduced, it was only available on the Dragon Isles. This was so that Blizzard could make a custom zone for the new feature to test it out properly over the course of an expansion. The new zone sizes specifically fit the very high new mount speeds. With the drag racer being similarly limited to the new zone, this really does sound like the perfect fit for the first dynamic ground mount ever.
Undermine is clearly being built with the new mount in mind. It also makes sense because of its customizable nature. And so to add usable abilities to the mount, similar to Skyriding, would make perfect sense! Unfortunately this hasn’t been confirmed, but with plenty of time until patch 11.1, we might learn more soon!
What do you think? Could this be the first ever dynamic ground mount? Or is it enough that it has its own customizable stats?
