Lately, an interesting Reddit post has come up, where Monster Hunter Wilds players are hinting at a new way to look at each weapon, that would mix both turn-based games and the playstyle groups from Gaijin Hunter! If you are still unsure about your main weapon and what job it is supposed to fill, this may actually help you make a final choice!
You can have a look at the original Reddit here:
Weapon Playstyle Groups
The following groups will give you hints on your weapon’s main job:
- Preemptive – Anticipate what the monster will do and its end position so you can set up and punish it:
- Reactive – React to what a monster does and continue your attack. Play aggressive and counter when a monster tried to hit you:
- Reflexive – Move between safe zones and continue your onslaught. Dance around the monster and be acrobatic:
- Explosive – Use powerful combos and moves to stop a monster in its tracks. Use knowledge of weapon mechanics to unleash holy hell:
- Strategic – A mix. Due to additional mechanics, you are thinking about your hunter and what you will do next as much as the monster:
Hunting Tips & Tricks
Additionally, here are a few tips and tricks to help you start your hunts:
- Do an Observation Hunt: For High Rank hunts, it can sometimes be useful to do a first “observation hunt”. This means going in more to learn the monster‘s mechanics and patterns, than to beat him directly.
- Think of it as turn-based: Pretending it is turn-based can help you make your way through harder hunts. Let the monster attack, then do your next move, evade and let the monster do its next move, and so on.
- Heal at Half Health: Do not wait for the Palico to heal you or for your health to drop drastically low. When you are half way dead, heal yourself. You never know when you take the next hit.
- Learn to Superman Dive: This is a move that is not that well known, but very useful. In order to execute it, you have to basically sprint and dodge. Be aware that, while this allows you to dodge heavy attacks, it also means you have to sheathe your weapon, sprint away, and you have a standing up animation before you can do anything else after:
- Sprint away from the monster and press R1 and X on PS5
- Sprint away from the monster and press RB and A on XBOX
- Sprint away from the monster and press Shift and Space on PC
- Upgrade your Weapons: The weapon is the first thing you should think about upgrading, as it means increased damage and abilities.
