No Steam Deck for Assassin’s Creed Shadows? Ubisoft Explains

Ubisoft’s upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, is set to release on March 20, 2025, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms. However, the company has confirmed that the game will not be compatible with Valve’s handheld gaming device, the Steam Deck, at launch.

During a recent Q&A session, Pierre F., Technology Director on Assassin’s Creed Shadows, addressed a question regarding the game’s compatibility with the Steam Deck. He stated during the Tech Q&A for the game that: “At launch, the game will not be compatible with Steam Deck, due to the fact it is below our minimum specs for PC.

The minimum system requirements for Assassin’s Creed Shadows include an Nvidia GTX 1070 8GB GPU or AMD Radeon RX 5700 GPU, and an Intel Core i7 8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU. These specifications far exceed the capabilities of the Steam Deck, leading to its incompatibility at launch.

This news may disappoint Steam Deck users who were anticipating playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows on their devices. While Ubisoft has not provided specific details about future compatibility, the phrasing “at launch” suggests that there may be potential for optimization or updates to support the Steam Deck in the future.

For now, players wishing to play Assassin’s Creed Shadows will need to do so on compatible platforms that meet the game’s minimum system requirements.
