Monster Hunter Wilds – Secret Crystallization Mechanic in the Ruins

Hunters exploring the Ruins during the Inclemency in Monster Hunter Wilds may have stumbled upon a fascinating hidden mechanic that has largely gone unnoticed. If you take down Guardians in Wylk pools, their bodies will crystallize instead of rotting, allowing you to carve off unique melding materials! The rarest of these materials is even worth 300 Guild Points.

Shoutout to the following player on Twitter/X who has shared the valuable information they gathered:

Rules for Crystallization:

  • Only Guardians will crystallize – Non-Guardian monsters will not undergo this transformation, even in Wylk pools.
  • Placement matters – The corpse must be at least partially inside a Wylk pool for the process to work. If the body is in an open area with no Wylk pool, it will rot normally.
  • Timing is key – If the area shifts to Plenty before crystallization completes, the corpse will rot as usual as well.

You will notice the monster has crystallized when a small crystal appears over the skull on your mini-map, similar to how the skull turns green when the corpse is rotten. It should take around 5 to 10 minutes for the crystallization to happen.

It is also good to know that it should still work if you already carved the monster before the crystallization. You should get a second chance to carve for the crystals.

What Can You Get?

If you carve Guardians who died and rotted in Wylk pools, you can get the following melding materials:

  • Cloudy Crystal
  • Coruscating Crystal

This mechanic adds another layer of strategy when hunting in the Ruins’ Inclemency, reminding us to always pay attention to our surroundings when hunting.
