Blizzard has officially outlined its Diablo 4 2025 content roadmap, and while the updates promise new features, players are already noticing a recurring trend: every season will once again revolve around borrowed powers!

Upcoming Seasons All Feature Borrowed Powers
According to the roadmap, all 3 upcoming seasons will introduce new borrowed power systems.
- Season 8 (April – July 2025) – Introduces Boss Powers like Duriel’s Burrow.
- Season 9 (July – September 2025) – Introduces Horadric Powers.
- Season 10 (September – December 2025) – Introduces Chaos Powers.
Although each theme comes with its own lore, rep grind, and quests, the structure remains the SAME, players gain access to seasonal abilities, enjoy them for a few months, and then start over again.
Blizzard Won’t Talk About Future Seasons. But Why Not?
One of the more frustrating aspects for players is Blizzard’s current stance on communication. Despite the roadmap clearly labeling upcoming systems like “Horadric Powers” and “Chaos Powers”, the team has stated they “can’t talk more” about future seasons at this time, which should not be the standard!
If all seasons are indeed built around borrowed powers, as the names strongly imply, why not share concrete details now and gather community feedback well in advance? This lack of transparency feels unnecessary, especially when player input could help shape those features before they go live.
Creative Gap Compared to Diablo 3?
While borrowed powers aren’t new to the franchise, longtime players can’t help but notice a creative gap compared to Diablo 3’s seasonal approach. D3 experimented with wildly different concepts:
- Season of Grandeur gave everyone the passive effect of Ring of Royal Grandeur, allowing for build flexibility without gear constraints.
- Season of Greed doubled Treasure Goblin spawns, giving players more loot.
These were meaningful changes that altered how players approached the season, not just in power, but also in BUILD DIVERSITY.

A Missed Opportunity for Variety?
To Blizzard’s credit, the powers in 2025 will likely be polished and thematic, but after years of similar borrowed powers (from Vampiric to Malignant), players are starting to feel the repetition. The community isn’t necessarily asking for more power. They’re asking for a SURPRISE, for something that shakes things up beyond another trait tree or ability slot.
