Genshin Impact Lunar-Charged DMG Formula Clarified

Genshin Impact‘s 5.8v3 leaks have introduced new details about how Lunar-Charged Damage is calculated, both for reaction-based and direct damage types. The updated formula is essential for understanding how Ineffa and related mechanics scale with stats like ATK and Elemental Mastery (EM).

You can also take a look at the original leak posted on Reddit:

Reaction Lunar-Charged DMG – Now More Precise

  • Only triggers once every 2 seconds, and only hits enemies affected by both Hydro and Electro.
  • Can CRIT and ignores enemy DEF.
  • All characters participating in the reaction deal their own damage, but only the highest contributing character deals full damage. The others are scaled down using the formula:
    • Final DMG = Highest + ½ x 2nd + 1⁄12 x 3rd + 1⁄12 x 4th
  • Damage is significantly increased by Elemental Mastery:
    • 500 EM: +120% bonus
    • 1000 EM: +200% bonus
    • 1500 EM: +257% bonus

Direct Lunar-Charged

  • Some characters can directly deal Lunar-Charged DMG via ATK-scaling multipliers.
    • The base DMG would be ATK x Multiplier.
  • This also ignores DEF and is boosted by EM Bonus.
  • The actual damage dealt is 300% of the original DMG.

Basically, EM scaling will give you more early bonuses, but CRIT scaling becomes more valuable at high stat thresholds. As players mention in the comments of the Reddit post: “Lunar-Charged is a secondary damage source… not meant to be primary.” It seems like a nice “bonus DPS” built into your team, not something to center your whole comp around.

These clarifications should allow you to better optimize builds for characters like Ineffa, especially in reaction-focused teams. Understanding how the EM scaling works, and how crit and DEF ignore apply, can help you squeeze out much more power from your rotations.
