Gearbox Promises FOV Slider on Consoles After Player Backlash

Field of View (FOV) sliders are standard in most shooters, letting you control how much of the world you can see. Borderlands 4, however, launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S without one.

Players quickly pointed out that this omission, along with the lack of a motion blur toggle, could cause motion sickness. Others just wanted more control for wide-screen displays. Interestingly, some players noticed that split-screen mode seems to increase FOV automatically, even though it is not in the settings.

One thing is sure, it feels unfair that PC players have it, but consoles do not.

Pitchford’s Controversial Statement

The issue caught the attention of Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, who tweeted a cryptic explanation. He suggested that adding FOV sliders might impact “fairness” in the game but did not provide details.

Despite the vagueness, a poll he posted revealed overwhelming support! Nearly 73% of voters said that FOV control would be helpful.

Gearbox Confirms FOV Sliders Are Coming

After the backlash, the official Borderlands Twitter account confirmed that Gearbox is actively exploring ways to bring FOV sliders to consoles:

Vault Hunters! We have heard your feedback on FOV sliders on console. The team is currently exploring how to bring these sliders to both Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 versions. We will continue to read your feedback & prioritize game updates with your experience in mind. Thanks all!

No timeline has been announced yet, but this means a clear win for console players demanding more accessibility and customization!
