A New StarCraft Game Might Be Coming – But Not from Blizzard

A New StarCraft Game Could Be on the Way – But It Might Not Come from Blizzard

If you have been waiting for something new in the StarCraft universe, there is finally movement, just not from Blizzard directly. According to reports from Korean news outlets and gaming sites, Blizzard is currently reviewing multiple proposals from external studios to develop the next StarCraft game.

Korean Studios Pitch New StarCraft Projects

As reported by Asia Today and MTN Korea, several major South Korean developers are in talks with Blizzard to license the StarCraft IP. The studios reportedly made formal pitches at Blizzard’s California headquarters, and each one brings a different approach:

  • NCSoft – known for Lineage and large-scale MMORPGs
  • Nexon – strong global reach and experience with live-service titles
  • Netmarble – major player in the mobile gaming space
  • Krafton – developers of PUBG and inZOI

Blizzard has not officially commented, but the idea appears to be licensing the franchise rather than developing a new StarCraft in-house.

A Different Direction for the Franchise?

Blizzard has not commented officially on any of these proposals. But the fact that multiple studios are stepping up with ideas suggests there is interest in giving StarCraft another shot, potentially in a very different format than before.

According to German outlet MeinMMO, some of these concepts would take StarCraft in new directions – possibly beyond real-time strategy. One rumor even suggests a StarCraft-themed RPG could be on the table. Another article from MeinMMO raises the mentioned possibility that Blizzard is changing its approach by outsourcing the next project entirely.

No new StarCraft game has been officially greenlit yet, but the interest alone shows that the franchise still has momentum – and a possible return in the near future.
