We’ve had quite a few revelations about the main focus of player attention in the War Within. Beledar, Hallowfall’s and the expansion’s most prominent mystery, got its origin story told with this week’s narrative quest. Archives: Seeking History revealed just what exactly it is (and we won’t spoil it, but you can read all about it here) and we also recently saw some old concept art of it with some very heavy implications.
Story Quests and Old Art
This weekly reset’s story quest revealed what exactly Beledar is (well, mostly), shutting down quite a few fan theories in the process. It didn’t really give us any hints at what’s next for the big-ol underground sun, however. But a much more intriguing piece of information surfaced a while before that. Catarina Pulli shared some early art of Beledar. And among those concept images was one really interesting one:
Now, that may well have been a scrapped idea, as you can see the big crystal’s shape isn’t exactly as we see it today either. But we have a very pertinent player discovery from earlier in the expansion that very neatly fits in with the above art!
The 3D Of It
Back around the expansion’s launch, intrepid players were buzzing all around Beledar, getting blinded and thrown to the shore. One particularly eager explorer, FaroraSF, went above and beyond with Shaman’s Far Sight, confirming that the crystal wasn’t just a skybox or similar, it’s actually very much there and has a 3D model.
This sparked some extreme guesses, but we haven’t seen anyone speculate that we’re actually going to go into it. Well, at least not before it falls down and cracks.
There’s surely loads more to be discovered about Hallowfall’s brightest star. But whatever its final form, or perhaps Xal’atath’s plans for it might be, it’ll sure make an impact when it crash-lands, explodes into tiny bits, or gets a legion of players poking inside its innards.
So is it really a solid object made out of you-know-what, or is it just a fancy-looking house? The latter option is looking more and more likely with the latest discoveries. What could be inside? Is it another prison for some ancient powerful being? Are the old Naaru theories still valid, but with a house twist? Is it Azeroth’s toenail? A Naaru disco?
Whatever the case may be, we’re definitely not done with Beledar quite yet!
