Blizzard Is “Cooking” but Is It Worth the Hype?

In a recent post on X/Twitter, Wudijo stated that “People have no idea how much they (Blizzard) are cooking“. He, as well as a few other content creators, recently spent the week at Blizzard’s campus, testing upcoming Diablo 4 content and talking with the devs. In his post, he wrote:

Naturally, the reception to this was rather mixed and stirred up both excitement as well as frustration across the Diablo 4 community.

Fans Push Back Against the Hype

At this point, a lot of players have grown tired of vague promises and feel like content creators are often used to build hype without showing real results. The phrase “they’re cooking” has been thrown around a lot lately, and not everyone is buying it.

A Reddit thread with thousands of upvotes criticized the post, calling it another case of “Blizzard farming creators for hype” instead of delivering something concrete. You can see it here:

A lot of players feel like it is all build-up with no payoff. And then there is also the age-old topic of extreme examples โ€“ namely, content creators like Wudi or other grind-heavy players โ€“ messing up the game for most “casual” players, as their feedback does not align with what most people actually think or want.

Frustration With Diablo 4’s Core Systems

The reaction is not just about one post. There are still plenty of concerns floating around about the game’s current state:

  • Loot โ€“ Too much of it still ends up being vendor trash
  • Crafting โ€“ Systems like Tempering and Masterworking are RNG-heavy and feel unrewarding
  • Gameplay โ€“ A lot of players find it repetitive and without real progression changes
  • Comparisons โ€“ Games like Path of Exile and Titan Quest 2 often come up as having more depth

There is also a growing sense that real fixes could be locked behind the next paid expansion, while the cash shop keeps getting new cosmetics.

Expansion Tease or Just Another Marketing Beat?

Wudijo stated that what he tested is not related to Season 10, which suggests Blizzard could be saving bigger reveals โ€“ maybe for an expansion or a full systems overhaul.

Nevertheless, players were (and probably still are) hoping for an announcement at Gamescom, but with Xbox focusing on World of Warcraft, the attention has instead shifted to The Game Awards as a more likely reveal window.

“Wait and See” Mode Activated

For now, the community feels a bit split… again. Content creators like Wudijo seem optimistic, but a lot of players have tuned out the hype. Many of us are waiting to see if Blizzard can actually deliver the changes the game needs.

So here is the big question:
Will Diablo 4 finally serve the full meal, or is this just more “cooking” with no real food on the table?
