FromSoftware released a full 10-minute overview trailer for Elden Ring: Nightreign, giving us a much better look at what this new co-op survival experience actually plays like. The video covers everything from its time-limited expeditions and player classes to randomized maps and brutal final bosses.
What Kind of Game Is Nightreign, Really?
The new overview trailer finally answers some of the bigger questions we had about the upcoming title. In short: this is not a traditional open-world RPG. Instead, it is a co-op survival action game with a 3-day expedition system, random world elements, and a heavy focus on replayability.
In Nightreign, you play as a Nightfarer (one of several unique character classes) and set out into Limveld, a corrupted land that changes with every expedition. Each run begins at Level 1, and your goal is to prepare, adapt, and grow stronger as you face a series of escalating dangers, all building toward a big battle against the Nightlord on the third night. This is not just Elden Ring with multiplayer–it is a survival-driven, run-based experience with a distinct structure and identity.
During the day, you explore, loot, level up, and plan your path.
Once night falls, the world closes in and things get harder fast.

Every Run Is Different
- Base layouts, enemy types, and loot change every run
- World events like volcanoes, meteor storms, or corrupted forests force you to adapt
- Survival only gets harder the longer you last
Reviving teammates is done in real-time with skills or ranged rescues, so teamwork matters. Once night arrives, it is all about surviving the final confrontation using the resources you have managed to gather.
Gameplay Loop, Combat, and Exploration
The core loop is all about making the most of each in-game day:
- Start weak at Level 1 and explore to gear up
- Hunt elite enemies, steal from enemy camps, and find powerful relics
- Handle world-changing events like meteor strikes, volcanoes, and corrupted zones
- Survive long enough to face a Nightlord boss at the end of Day 3
As mentioned: Maps, loot, enemy types, and base locations change every time. The game is basically designed more like a roguelite expedition rather than a linear campaign.

The Nightfarers – Playable Classes Explained
There are six fully playable Nightfarer classes at launch, each with their own skills, passives, and ultimate abilities:
- Wylder – Melee fighter with a grappling hook and explosive spikes
- Guardian – Defensive tank with healing zones and CC
- Ironeye – Precision archer with debuffs and piercing shots
- Duchess – Agile trickster with stealth and fast combos
- Raider – Brawler with unstoppable charges and support totems
- Recluse – Mage who heals allies through offensive spells
Each one has a very different rhythm, so class choice is important when building your team.
You can customize appearance, pick a mentor to guide your build progression, and unlock memory-based objectives to learn more about your character’s past.
Base, Crafting, and Team Progression
Between expeditions, you and your friends will return to the Roundtable Hold—a reimagined hub space. You spend earned “Murk” to buy gear or cosmetic items, upgrade stats using relics, and prepare for the next run. Some features carry over between expeditions, giving the game a sense of long-term progression.

Combat is fast-paced and focused on synergy. Reviving teammates is done by interacting through damage or range-based rescue actions, which gives group play more tension and cooperation.
The base and memory systems also unlock story beats and side objectives related to your character’s lost past.
Big Bosses, Bigger Risks
On the final day, Nightlords spawn – huge boss encounters that require proper planning, knowledge of weaknesses, and solid coordination. These fights are where your run is either made or broken.
