Elden Ring: Nightreign – Why Keep Weapons in Each Slot?

In Elden Ring: Nightreign, many players are accidentally weakening their characters by removing weapons before boss fights. While it might seem logical to clean your inventory, in this specific case it can remove helpful passive effects that would instead boost you.

Passive Effects Remain Active

Nightreign has a system where weapons provide passive bonuses simply by being equipped in each slot. This works even if you do not use those weapons during the fight. These passive effects can include things like:

  • Extra damage over time
  • Increased resistances
  • Buffs to status effects
  • Small stat boosts

Keep in mind that this does not work for weapons where the passive requires you to hit the enemy, so make sure you have weapons with actual passive abilities.

Why Players Are Accidentally Nerfing Themselves

We’ve seen many players drop weapons before big fights to clean their inventory for incoming loot. But when you do this, you’re throwing away valuable buffs. Without realizing it, you’re lowering your damage, losing survivability, or even removing status effect boosts!

Keep also in mind that many passive effects stack, so keeping multiple helpful weapons can lead to stronger builds overall.

Best Way to Optimize

  • Keep your weapon slots full at all times, even if you only use one or two for combat.
  • Look at the weapon descriptions before throwing them. Many have passive bonuses that aren’t obvious when you first look at it.
  • Weapons are like passive items in a way. It’s not just tools for damage. If it has a useful buff, keep it.
  • You can sort weapons by passive effects. Some weapons may not have the best damage, but offer better passive bonuses. These are perfect for your extra slots. Use your inventory menu to sort and prioritize based on the passive effects you want to stack.

Elden Ring: Nightreign gives you the freedom to build your character in many ways, so don’t make the mistake of throwing out your weapons before a boss fight. Those passive buffs add up, and they might be the difference between a good or a bad run.
