Black Myth: Wukong

Is Black Myth: Zhongkui the Next Big Reveal at Gamescom?

Just hours before Gamescom 2025 officially starts, a new trademark has popped up that might point to the next big title in the Black Myth series – Black Myth: Zhongkui.

The trademark was filed earlier today and already has fans of the first game talking about a possible Black Myth: Wukong sequel or DLC reveal – especially with Gamescom Opening Night Live just two hours away! Filed by developer Game Science, the trademark includes both video game products and merchandise like bracelets and notebooks, which suggests something bigger than just a minor update.

Who is Zhongkui?

Zhongkui is a famous figure in Chinese mythology, often depicted as a demon hunter and guardian who protects people from evil spirits. That makes him a perfect fit for the Black Myth universe, which Game Science has always said would expand into a full mythology-based franchise.

Back in 2020, Game Science actually registered a few potential follow-up titles for Black Myth, including one called Zhongkui. That, as well as the different naming format (Black Myth: Zhongkui instead of Wukong), is making players think this could be a standalone follow-up, not just a DLC.

Will It Be Revealed at Gamescom?

Game Science is confirmed to appear at Gamescom 2025, but they have not announced what they will show. Fans are now hoping that Black Myth: Zhongkui could be revealed during Opening Night Live, which airs later today.

Regardless of this being a new game announcement or “just” a major expansion, the franchise seems to be picking up steam – only months after Wukong blew up across global charts.
