Monster Hunter Wilds has made a memorable debut in Japan, selling 601,179 physical copies at launch. This achievement makes it the best-selling PS5 game of all time in Japan.
This strong performance also led to a significant boost in PS5 sales, with 108,978 units sold during the same period. The game has clearly driven interest in Sony’s console, showing the longtime popularity of the Monster Hunter franchise.
However, compared to previous Monster Hunter titles, physical launch sales show a noticeable decline:
- Monster Hunter World: 1.35 million copies
- Monster Hunter Rise: 1.30 million copies
While the gap is significant, it is important to consider the increasing shift towards digital purchases. Time will tell if Monster Hunter Wilds can make up for this difference through strong digital sales in the coming weeks.
