It’s time for a final look at Liberation of Undermine and just how well the specs did there. But this isn’t your ordinary DPS list. AttitudeAdjusterSE dives into a custom chart showcasing the relation between how much a spec got played and its actual damage output. By plotting specs based on average DPS performance (X-axis) and popularity/# of parses (Y-axis), we get a look at which specs are dominating raids, which are sleepers, and which might be dragging behind!
The Data
To make things clearer, the chart is divided down the middle at 0% DPS deviation and 30K parses, giving us four distinct quadrants:
- Top-Right: High DPS, High Popularity
- Top-Left: Low DPS, High Popularity
- Bottom-Left: Low DPS, Low Popularity
- Bottom-Right: High DPS, Low Popularity
The data is taken from the Mythic 75th percentile chart.

The Specs
Unsurprisingly, Retribution still sits at the top of the popularity chart. It’s actually doing quite well in the damage department too, sitting in 5th place. The No.1 damage spec, Devastation, is also solidly popular, interestingly also coming in 5th on the popularity side of things. Balance is on the other side of that equation. It’s the second most popular spec, but isn’t doing well at all in the damage department, sitting at the bottom along with Frost Mage. Destruction and Marksmanship are two more outliers when it comes to damage. They’re also pretty popular, sitting comfortably in the top 10.
The biggest extremes are Frost Mage, which is doing very badly in the DPS department, but isn’t quite terrible when it comes to player counts. Augmentation is definitely the least played spec, and isn’t doing great DPS, but not awful either. Unholy is hugging the middle line very hard, as it’s the most mid there can be, almost perfectly sitting on the neutral DPS mark and the middle of the popularity chart!
