If you’re trying to get some of the best weapons and armor in the game (Ancestral gear), you’re going to need to farm a lot of Primitive Iron Ore. The problem is that this resource isn’t like the others – there’s a unique method behind getting your hands on this specific type of ore.
In this post, we review the two ways on how you can gain access to Primitive Iron Ore, giving you exactly what you need to take your gear to the next level.
If you’re interested in following along via video, feel free to watch below. Otherwise, each of the two methods are shared in detail below!
Farming Primitive Iron Ore Through Time Portals

The first method of farming Primitive Iron Ore is by entering instance group dungeons known as Time Portals. These are indicated by large, blue, glowing lights scattered throughout Setera (image above as reference). In order to enter these mini dungeons, you’ll need to be in a party, but you can simply create your own party of 1 and enter that way if needed.
Once you enter the Time Portal, you will encounter a handful of large tentacle mobs near large piles of dead bodies. This is your signal that there might be Primitive Iron Ore nearby! Simply defeat the tentacle mob, then begin exploring the area near you, and you might come across some of this ore!
By completing these Time Portals, you’ll also be able to pick up a handful of great rewards, including gold, gear, jewels, and even designs for Ancestral weapons and armor.
This is by-far the most well-known method of farming Primitive Iron Ore, but the second method below is the fastest and most efficient!
Farming Primitive Iron Ore in the Open World

This method is the most efficient but will also typically require you to have at least one other person (the more the merrier). The first thing you will need to do is run to the Fading Footsteps solo dungeon, which is just west of the Santove’s Discovery bound stone. Right outside of the dungeon you’ll see a large, open-world golem creature known as “Ezzo”.
Ezzo is very powerful, and you will likely need to have a few other players with you to take him down. As you dish off damage, chunks of his body will slowly fall off, and will appear as Primitive Iron Ore nodes on the map, allowing you to mine them and reap the rewards. Additionally, once you defeat Ezzo, a large handful of these Primitive Iron Ore nodes will appear, pushing all players in the area to try to mine it as fast as possible!
Helpful Tip: These Primitive Iron Ore nodes are typically very contested, so be sure to have a high-quality pickaxe to mine this resource as fast as possible!
