Blizzard has just made big adjustments to the Lair Boss system ahead of Season 8’s launch, making it much easier and more rewarding to farm bosses for Uniques and Mythic Uniques.
As a quick refresher: Lair Bosses are Diablo 4’s tiered endgame bosses, grouped into Initiate, Greater, and Exalted bosses. You no longer need materials to summon them, but you do need keys to unlock their hoard of rewards once they are defeated. And importantly, every player in the group needs their own keys to access the chest. That meant that for a 4-player group, you would need 4x the listed amount of keys, which makes farming rather demanding.
But now, Blizzard is easing the grind.
Increased Lair Boss Key Drops
- Helltide Chests give more
Living Steel
- Nightmare Dungeons drop more
Distilled Fear
- Blood Maiden, Legion Events, and World Bosses now give more
Exquisite Blood
- Random key drops are less likely to be unwanted duplicates like
Malignant Heart
Reduced Key Requirements to Open Boss Hoards
- Initiate: 12 keys (unchanged)
- Greater: reduced to 3 keys (from 4)
- Exalted: reduced to 2 keys (from 3)
This is especially welcome for Greater and Exalted bosses, as their keys are only obtained by farming Initiate bosses. So reducing their cost directly reduces the grind!
Bonus Loot
On top of the key changes, Lair Bosses now drop 7 Unique items on Torment IV, up from 6!
Overall, this update makes Lair Boss farming much more accessible, especially for groups, and hopefully more satisfying. Don’t forget Season 8 starts on April 29!
