Diablo 4’s Season 9, Sins of the Horadrim, is here, but not everything is going smoothly. Players are already reporting a big issue: Arcana, one of the key item for modifying the new Horadric Spells, is way too rare.
What Is the Issue
The main system for Season 9 is Spellcrafting: you can create and customize your own new skill using a mix of different effects. In order to do so, you need to combine one base spell, a Catalyst, with 1 infusion, which changes the elemental type of your catalyst, and 3 Arcana, which are modifiers that add additional unique effects.
While the Catalysts and Infusions are unlocked as you progress through the seasonal questline, Arcana can only drop in Nightmare Dungeons or the new Strongrooms that can be found inside the Nightmare Dungeons.
However, players are starting to realize that the drop-rate for those Arcana are extremely low. Some threads on Reddit opened around the topic, such as the following one:
It shows just how common the problem is, with players saying the drop rate is either broken or ridiculously low.
Even personal experience matches that: after reaching level 40 by doing only Nightmare Dungeons and seasonal content, I only got one Arcana the whole time. Not exactly a fun grind when the entire season’s new system depends on this item.
On top of that, the Seasonal Journey requires you to find multiple of those Arcana as well, which means that it basically locks you out of completing your Journey:

So far, Blizzard has not responded, but with so many players hitting this wall early on, a fix, or at least a statement, might be coming soon.
We will keep you updated if anything changes.
