Is Ve’nari Coming Back for Real?
If you are into WoW’s story, you might be interested to know that Ve’nari is back! In Patch 11.1.7’s Lorewalking feature, the elusive Broker from the Maw returns for a new storyline, and it feels like there is more going on than just a quick throwback.
So what exactly happens, and why are players so excited?
Playing Through Important Storylines
If you have not kept up with what is happening in retail World of Warcraft: Patch 11.1.7 introduces Lorewalking, a new feature for characters Level 10 and up. Instead of repeating random old quests, this mode focuses on replaying important storylines from WoW’s past, fully narrated by Lorewalker Cho, with rewards and achievements included.
Three Lorewalking arcs are currently known (from the PTR):
- Xal’atath’s Saga
- The Lich King’s Legacy
- The Ethereals (featuring Ve’nari)
Ve’nari’s Return: “Veni Vidi Ve’nari”
The final chapter of the Ethereal storyline is a new quest called “Veni Vidi Ve’nari,” and it definitely seems to be more than just a clever name. This quest chain confirms that Ve’nari and the Ethereals both come from K’aresh, a long-lost world heavily tied to Void lore.
Quest Spoilers (Read at Your Own Risk)
During the quest you will help Locus-Walker, the Void-wielding Ethereal from Legion and Argus, as he fights off the Shadowguard, a corrupted Ethereal sect, in the Telogrus Rift. After you finish a little story segment with Lorewalker Cho, a Broker emissary delivers a device from Ve’nari. This sets up a reunion between her and Locus-Walker in the present (of WoW), revealing that they share history going back to the fall of their home planet.
Here is their dialogue:
- Locus-Walker: “I have not seen you since the destruction of our world.”
- Ve’nari: “Such fangs, Locus-Walker… Come. We have much to discuss.”
- If you then try to speak to her directly after: “Did you think I would not know stories were being told about me? You only survive in my position by being exceedingly cautious. Concealment is everything.”

What the Lore Tells Us
The Ethereals storyline is quite comprehensive. However, it is the Brokers part that is especially intriguing in relation to Ve’nari. Here are the biggest takeaways from this story:
- Brokers and Ethereals are both from K’aresh
Lorewalker Cho directly comments on this, noting their shared traits and wondering if they were once one people, split by ideology or circumstance. Blizzard stops short of calling them the same race, but their shared homeworld and technology suggest they might once have been part of the same people, before diverging over time. - Ve’nari and Locus-Walker have a complicated past
They clearly know each other, and Locus-Walker does not seem happy about it. Their history may go deeper than we have seen, and might also explain Ve’nari’s solitary nature in the Maw. - The Shadowguard are back
These Void-aligned Ethereals were first introduced in Legion. They are now targeting Locus-Walker and others, which points to the Void storyline heating up again.
What It Might Be Setting Up
So, is this just a throwback moment? Or is Blizzard setting something up?
Ve’nari has not appeared since the Shadowlands expansion. Now she is in a fully-voiced, repeatable Lorewalking quest that gives rewards, lore items, and achievements. That usually means the character is getting spotlighted for a reason.
While we do not know if Ve’nari will return in Patch 11.2, this quest still feels like a link to the larger Void narrative that we may see in the future.
And there is a lot of story she could still be part of. The Ethereals, Brokers, and Void are all tightly linked to Xal’atath, Locus-Walker, and the Dark Heart storyline that Undermine left us hanging on.
Given how things are building, Ve’nari’s return could go either way: she might be an ally, or maybe something more complicated, in the larger Void and Ethereal plotline that is just starting to unfold.
