Titan Quest 2 Launched Into Steam Early Access Now!

The wait is over! Titan Quest 2, the long-awaited sequel to the classic ARPG, is launching into Steam Early Access today! It is time to start a new adventure, set in a beautifully reimagined world of ancient Greek mythology. Developed by Grimlore Games and published by THQ Nordic, the game mixes old-school hack-and-slash with more modern mechanics and a ton of build customization options and new content you can discover right now!

Story & Setting: Rise Against Nemesis

In Titan Quest 2, you play as a beginner warrior caught in the wrath of Nemesis, the goddess of retribution. After your village is destroyed, you begin your journey in the Flooded Farmlands near Pergos, with the guidance of Aristano, a Spartan mentor and former priestess of Nemesis herself.

The game world features a semi-open world. In each chapter, you can explore the current zone in any way you wish. The story itself connects each chapter in a more linear way.

Combat: Tactical, Timed, and Challenging

Combat in Titan Quest 2 is more tactical than before. Enemies use telegraphed attacks, ground AoEs, and more mechanics that force you to make quick decisions. It’s all about a back-and-forth with the enemies. You can side-step enemy weapon attacks thanks to the animation timings of each attack. Groups of enemies also have skills that work with each other, for example:

  • Brutes will slam hard and soak up a ton of damage.
  • Man Catchers can incapacitate you with their net If you are caught, Brutes’ hits are unavoidable unless you teleport. The ideal is to never get caught, so use your dodge wisely!
  • Healer Enchanters buff allies and heals, and must be killed first.

You can also choose how you take on the fights! Do you kill the small enemies first? Or do you decide to take on the Elites directly? The game also emphasizes timing-based evasion and crowd control, especially in elite or boss fights.

  • Elite Enemies: Powerful leaders with auras and custom skills, not quite bosses, but still very deadly. You can find them throughout the open world, and sometimes through various quests.
  • Bosses: Bosses have much more complex skills than the regular elite enemies. You will have to dodge on time, or tank it through with a counter build. Boss fight have a bit of souls-like patterns. The goal is to allow players to memorize the boss patterns, and over time learning exactly how to dodge each attack. There will not be much room for randomness in the boss attack patterns.

Character Building: Dual Masteries and Meta Attributes

Building your character is all about flexibility and synergy. The goal was to give you as many opportunities to build your character as possible:

  • You start by picking two Masteries to form your class.
  • After this, as you level, you will mix and match different Skill Modifiers to customize your abilities to your needs.
  • Even passive skills come with feeds that you can unlock and mix to further customize your character.
  • You have plenty of synergies to explore, just be aware that some enemies may be more resistant to certain core builds.
    • To fix this, you can change your skill modifiers at any time, for no costs, and you can also respec your skills without the need for a vendor. Skill point reallocation will cost you a small price in gold, however.
  • You can change your main attributes, but you need a ritual shrine for those. Your attribute determines the type of equipment you can use.
    • Titan Quest 2 features meta attributes, a function of adjacent attributes. These will boost select damage types.

With the amount of character customization that you can do, playing something like a mage with a staff and heavy armor can totally be viable!

Special Encounter

During your journey, you will encounter a sort of cave, where you can find Titan Ichor. It has crystallized, but still contains a ton of power that you could harvest! But in order to do so, you have to make it out alive through a wave-based encounter against skeletons.

Early Access Content

You will be able to go through a good part of the game from Day 1:

  • 2 Chapters (Intro + Ichtian)
  • 4 Masteries (Earth, Storm, Warfare, Rogue)
  • 50+ Enemy Types
  • 6 Bosses
  • 9 Main Quests + 14 Side Quests
  • Skill Modifier System + Meta Attributes
  • No Microtransactions

More content, including masteries, areas, and bosses, is planned for regular updates. The devs are welcoming player feedback to guide what comes next as well!
