Unfinished WIP Unique Item With Strange Power Drops on Live Season 4 Servers

It seems some Work is still in Progress on a Unique item that’s made it into the Season 4 patch! The [WIP] Eye of the Depths isn’t quite done cooking, and its unfinished version has made it into the live game, with players getting it as a drop!

Rikukun hit the weirdness jackpot, as we haven’t seen something like this in the game yet. And it’s not just the WIP tag, there’s also the powerful TBD affix that makes this Unique particularly unique!

The Brilliant Affix Explanations

While the unique affix obviously stands for “To Be Determined”, players have come up with some pretty convincing alternatives! Throwaway60221407e23‘s “The Bovine Domain” nicely links to the Cow Level Mystery. Meanwhile J65onp‘s “Tuesdays Be Damage” is a nice callback to the Blizzard-approved meme. But the winner of the TBD contest is clearly xcassets. They came up with a whole new and legitimate concept for the affix actually being a cool and working one:

“The ‘TBD’ does not mean that it is still to be determined by the dev team, ‘TBD’ is the unique aspect of the Eye of the Depths. Every one that drops has a different power and the player needs to try and figure out what it is by observing what happens during combat. It is ‘To Be Determined’ by the player. So far it is theorized that there are 3 different aspects it can drop with (one for each eye on the average D4 player).

More players have gotten the item as well, as reported on the official forums.

While it’s weird that this one made it through testing, it’s still cool to see strange things like this. And with Uniques being so frequent in Season 4, it’s not that big of a loss in terms of a drop either!
