Mutterlock chests are a pretty rare occurrence, found in dungeons. A Mutterlock chest is a puzzle of sorts. Upon interacting with it, you’ll be given a list of phrases to chose from. The list is random, so don’t try to Google the right answer. If you chose the correct phrase, the chest will open, but if you chose the wrong answer, it will disappear.
How to Open a Mutterlock Chest?
Extremely short version first: 3 stones near the chest give you a phrase, you order them Birth > Life > Death.
Ok, now the actual explanation. Every phrase consists of 3 words in Latin. What you need to do is find clues that will give you the right answer. So, close the dialogue box for now and find these clues by looking for Three Whispering Stones in the area around the location of the chest. When you interact with a stone, you will get this line of text: “The markings are illegible, but a whisper is heard.”
Each Whispering Stone is inscribed with a Birth, Life or Death inscription and each stone will give you (whisper) one word. The important thing here is to put these words in the right order. Fairly straight-forward, as the Birth inscription goes first, then Life and finally Death.

Once you chose the correct phrase, the Mutterlock chest will transform into a Resplendent Chest and surrender its loot. And the rewards are…to be honest, in most cases not so great. It’s a standard Resplendent chest, what are you expecting? Or is it? Yea, it probably is, but hey, maybe they have a better chance at some solid loot considering how rare they are.
