While many players were excited to play Elden Ring: Nightreign, one thing has disappointed a lot of players who expected to be able to explore without dragging a third wheel with them! Nightreign sadly only supports solo play and 3-player co-op.
While you can technically team-up as a duo, the third slot will always be filled automatically with a random player. You can not complete a run with just two players. For those who just wanted to experience the game with one friend, this setup does feel a bit strange and restrictive.
Modders Step In With a 2-Player Co-Op Option
Luckily, the Elden Ring modding community wasted no time. Modder Yui stated:
“I played a little bit this evening and managed to get together a functional multiplayer system without connecting to the matchmaking servers (and therefore not needing to run EAC).”
As with all mods, this is PC-only for now, and not officially supported by FromSoftware. But for many players, it’s the ideal way to enjoy Nightreign with a close friend. No distractions, just the two of you against the darkness.
You can find the mod on popular sites like Nexus Mods, along with setup instructions and compatibility notes.
If you want to see what the mod looks like before you download it, Yui has released a detailed video showcasing it. You can watch that here:
