Why Pushing +18s Matters More Than Ever in WoW Midnight

In World of Warcraft: Midnight, the Mythic+ rewards from the Great Vault are climbing higher than ever. Datamined information from the Mythic+ seasonal reward table shows that, in order to achieve the best rewards from the Great Vault, players will have to push +18s.

These changes could help players save crests. With the upgrade system needing more crests, this change will give players extra motivation to push even higher. For every crest you save, that is an upgrade for another piece of gear.

The Great Vault will still award mythic track items by completing a +10, so players won’t have an obligation to push beyond that if they’re just looking for mythic gear. If you’re looking to optimize your crests as much as possible, that’s going to require a bit of extra work.

New Mythic+ Rewards Saves Little on Crests

Changes have been made to gearing, like each track having their own associated crests. However, the upgrade system has changed as well. The cost to upgrade gear doubled, and is more top-heavy, requiring 90 crests on the last two levels alone. If you decide to complete 18s, you’ll be saving yourself 60 crests compared to a +10, 50 crests compared to a +12, and 30 crests compared to a +15.

Comparing the difficulty from a +10 to a +18, the trade-off to save 60 crests feels underwhelming. According to Raider.io, only 5782 runs were completed at a +18 in Season 1, 935 at +19s, and only 56 +20 runs. Those numbers might go up with more incentives to push higher keys, but it’s a very challenging task even for high key pushers. Boosting or “tip runs” could become even more prevalent, especially with a huge reward tied to the vault that’s guaranteed.

The extended track at +12 will also be challenging in week one. The War Within saw about 46,000 runs at +12 or higher in the first week. With the change, we might see more players in Midnight making an active push to get a +12 for their vaults in week one.

Will This Encourage You to Push?

Do you think changes like this will encourage more players to push? Could you see yourself pushing above a 10 for the crests discounts?
