Struggling to ‘win’ in Elden Ring: Nightreign? You are not alone. Between unpredictable bosses, underpowered gear, and awkward early-game pacing, it is very easy to fall behind. But according to this new Reddit post that recently emerged, most of that frustration comes down to bad habits and rushing content way too fast.
The Reddit post basically lays out a full gameplan for how to win Nightreign expeditions more consistently. The mentioned tips are already helping players rethink their approach, and honestly, it is one of the best early strategy guides we have seen yet, as it is very comprehensive.
Keep in mind that this is not a min-max build theory or “which class to pick for easy wins” post. It is about understanding the intended flow of each expedition and avoiding some of the most common mistakes players make on Day 1 and Day 2. So, here is a breakdown of the core bits of advice:
Day 1: Loot First, Fight Later
The biggest tip? Do not rush field bosses or storm castles right away.
You want to spend Day 1 focused on two things:
- Getting flask upgrades from Churches of Marika
- Grabbing elemental weapons from ruins and ruined Finger Cathedrals
Each Nightlord has a specific elemental weakness, and the map gives you the tools to prep for it.
“Use the map and zoom in – ruins show elemental icons. Go for those that match your class or the boss you’re fighting next.”

If you are playing classes like Recluse, Duchess, or Revenant, make sure you get the right elemental gear early, even if your team has to help you find it.
Skip trash mobs whenever you can and go straight to ruin bosses (they are usually at the top of the structure or down in a basement).
A few bonus tips for Day 1:
- Use Golden Chicken Feet before a boss to boost rune gain
- Use Silver Chicken Feet before looting a chest to improve drops
- Match your weapon element to the Nightlord’s weakness, or the fight will drag
Day 2: Upgrade Before You Fight
After beating your first Nightlord, Day 2 is all about weapon upgrades:
- Use mines to get high-tier (purple) upgrades by beating the troll boss inside
- Check for magma craters; if one is active, the altar inside can give a legendary upgrade
Whatever you do, do not challenge a Nightlord with a non-upgraded or mismatched weapon. You will just waste flasks and time.
Party Etiquette and Smart Play
This guide also calls out one of the biggest issues in most co-op runs: teammates ignoring each other’s needs.
- Do not just follow random map pings; make sure they actually help your element setup
- Ignore players who rush bosses on Day 1, as loot and upgrades should always come first

And remember: this is still Elden Ring. Knowing legacy item locations from the base game can help you plan smarter routes, too.
Class and Item Tips
- Do not pick Executor unless you are confident at parrying
- Classes should match your preferred element + Ash of War, not just weapon style
- Wylder is a good katana pick if you do not like parrying
- Avoid the healing-over-time flask upgrade, because it actually reduces your healing
Some extra tricks:
- Most weapon passives work just by being in your inventory
- Red Hand passives only trigger when the item is slotted (main/offhand)
- You can still 2H a main weapon while benefiting from support passives in your offhand
- Walking-based passives activate if you gently move the stick
Endgame and Unlocks
Last but not least, remember to always check your journal at the Roundtable Hold after missions, even if you failed. You will unlock extra story content, urn options, and relic customization this way.
Some merchants might even sell consumable pouches that expand your usable item slots, so always browse their stock.
