Call of Duty isn’t the only FPS that’s seeing a drop in its player base. The player count for Battlefield 6 has fallen below 100k on Steam for the first time since launch. Is this a sign of something wrong with the game, or are players over-stressing the natural dip in player numbers after launch?
The Decline of Battlefield 6

As of the time of writing, the player count of Battlefield 6 has dropped under 100k players on Steam, even after the holidays are over. While BF6 remains in the top 15 of Steam’s most-played games, there is a track record of this decline.
Ever since Season 1 launched, the player count for Battlefield 6 has been slowly declining for a variety of reasons. This has included the new Blackwell map, which was not well-received. Portal and player-made lobbies are often broken. Players did not respond well to the Battle Pass, and there was continuous clashing over customization.
This caused Steam reviews to plummet, but the decline didn’t stop there. Recently, the winter update completely broke the game. Causing several game-breaking bugs, UI problems, and more. All of this, on top of the winter event having AI-generated cosmetics, didn’t help uplift community spirits.
Down but Not Out

Despite many problems, and some fans arguing that most post-launch updates have tanked the game, Battlefield 6 still boasts tons of players, though its peak player numbers have dropped. But what would be the right move for BF6’s next season?
A lot of what the community asks for is:
- More Maps
- Fix Portal
- Improve the Battle Pass and make challenges less FOMO (fear of missing out)
But if Dice doesn’t act fast, Battlefield’s player numbers will continue to drop as fans flock to Arc Raiders or Marvel Rivals.
