Players Are Losing 95% of Their Dungeon XP Right Before WoW Midnight

Dungeons are one of the many ways to level in World of Warcraft, but players are noticing a bug that is impacting their XP gains and slowing down their levelling only a couple weeks away from Midnight.

A debuff granting players 95% reduced experience named Experience Eliminated iconExperience Eliminated has appeared since the new patch.

This bug appeared at the start of the War Within as well. Players who queued into dungeons, even at max level, could receive it unintentionally.

Introduced in Patch 8.2.0, this debuff is applied to players who intentionally queue up with someone who eliminated their experience. It is not supposed to apply to group members who joined via group finder.

Hotfixes that came a couple days after the patch didn’t mention if it’s been fixed.

“Experience Eliminated”?

The Experience Eliminated iconExperience Eliminated feature was added back in Patch 3.2 during the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. It was added when battlegrounds began awarding experience. It allowed players to stay in a specific level bracket to farm gear and honor, and would match them against players who also had their experience disabled.

The debuff was introduced nearly a decade later in patch 8.2.0, decreasing experience gains by 95%. Blizzard slowed down levelling and fixed an exploit, where level 110 characters could level others really fast through dungeons and Island Expeditions. This exploited scaling, and allowed players to level several characters to level 120 very fast.

On Retail, it still is used by players used to farm gear and experience older content at scale. Certain achievements like Herald of the Titans iconHerald of the Titans also require to stop gaining experience at level 30. It costs 10 gold to enable it, and another 10 to disable it.

With less than two weeks until Midnight’s Early Access launch, here’s to hoping for a quick solution!
