A recently surfaced Reddit post has given World of Warcraft fans a rare look into one of the game’s earliest alpha builds—all the way back from 2001!
The screenshot shared by Psych0Jenny shows an incredibly early version of WoW. With chunky UI elements, massively oversized inventory icons, and very rough character models, it barely looks like the Azeroth we know today.
But even 25 years later, there are elements of WoW’s alpha UI, such as the mini map and player portraits, that have hardly changed to this day.
Redditors have been fascinated by how different—yet wholly recognisable—the game looked during development. With speculation growing around a possible Classic+ announcement, screenshots like this feel even more exciting!
