In the team’s most recent update (Developer’s Notes #5), we received an update on a system known as the “Matrix System”, which plays a major role in the overall combat and class progression throughout the game. Additionally, the team provided some more updates around a new “Supporter System”, monster equipment, and other QoL improvements.
Each of these updates are highlighted below.
Matrix System Overview
The Matrix System is a node-based progression system that moves away from linear paths, allowing you to customize your character towards your preferred playstyle. It’s designed to maintain the unique identity of each class and weapon, while also offering a specialized combat experience.
Even within the same weapon category, combat styles are now further diversified based on the stats that you distribute through the Matrix System, your passive skills, and even the attributes of the equipped gear your character has.
Within this Matrix System, players can focus their progression to suit their specific needs and work with their preferred playstyle. Meeting certain specialization requirements will unlock unique skills and stats that can support players with specific builds.
These unique skills and stats could include casting speeds, effects, combat rhythm, and more.
The Supporter System
If you played the first Chrono Odyssey CBT, then chances are you struggled with the first Chrono Gate boss. It was overpowered, and one of the first true battles you encountered in the game. It was so strong, that it even scared away some testers from continuing the test!
To ensure that players have more of a learning opportunity and to adjust the difficulty of the first Chrono Gate boss, the team has introduced the “Supporter System”. This system will provide players with the option to challenge and clear combat encounters alongside an NPC supporter (below is an example of how this works).
Please note: This is an optional feature designed to ensure smooth gameplay and help players overcome early-game challenges.
Monster Equipment
There is a new way to customize the appearance of your characters based on the monsters you defeat throughout the world of Setera.
When defeating certain monsters, you can now obtain equipment that mirrors the appearance and characteristics of the specific enemy. This can range from helmets to armor to even weapons. In some cases, you may even get unique cosmetics from world bosses!
This system goes beyond just stats and is focused on providing players the opportunity to immerse themselves further into the world of Setera.
Additional QoL Updates
The Chrono Odyssey team shared a handful of additional updates outside of these systems as well, including the following.
