Jimothy the raccoon became a worldwide sensation in the past month, and we finally know when he’ll be arriving in World of Warcraft: With Patch 12.1, set to release next week on August 11!
Jimothy Is a Secret Pet in Patch 12.1
With a new hotfix on the Patch 12.1 PTR earlier today, Jimothy’s model has finally been added to the game! Witness the raccoon running in his full glory below.
Previously, Jimothy was teased by the official Warcraft social media accounts to be coming to the game at some point, including a preview of his model. With today’s Icy Veins, Wowhead, and Raider.IO group interview with Paul Kubit and Rachel Vought, the developers revealed that Jimothy will be obtained via a secret in Patch 12.1.
Sean (Raider.IO): (…) I do have a unique question. This is maybe one hopefully you haven’t heard yet today. 12.0 brought us Zul’Aman, Harandar, and the Voidstorm with all of their fantastic new additions to the Warcraft Bestiary. With us visiting Atal’Utek in 12.1, are there any new critters that we should keep an eye out for? And do either of you have one that holds a special place in your heart?
Rachel Vought: I have two, possibly three. (…) And there also might be one vaguely raccoon-shaped thing somewhere in this update, but I don’t have a lot of details to share on that.
Paul Kubit: Vaguely raccoon-shaped is a fun way to describe that particular model.
Seliathan (Icy Veins): Would it(‘s name) start with a “J”?
Rachel Vought: Again, maybe?
Paul Kubit: Can’t really confirm or deny, yeah.
Although Jimothy’s model has been added on the 12.1 PTR, he currently does not have a pet journal entry, which supports the theory that he’s connected to a secret. Secrets are usually purposefully kept out of the PTR to avoid spoiling the surprise and allow the community to participate in the current solve. Secrets also usually lack an entry on journals until you unlock them.

What is a Jimothy, Anyway?
Jimothy is a wild raccoon found in Seattle, Washington, that became internet famous over the past month. Jimothy gathered attention due to his unusual, squashed appearance, attributed to a condition known as short spine syndrome. Although Jimothy may look different, he has no discernible disabilities and is able to live in the wild without any limitations.
World of Warcraft is not the first game to pay homage to Jimothy’s internet fame. Games such as Old School RuneScape and D&D Beyond have made renders of Jimothy. Games with modding communities such as The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and Stardew Valley also have Jimothy added to their respective games via mods.
