First announced in January 2024, Beastmaster is now available as part of the Dawntrail 7.56 patch. First appearing in Final Fantasy V, Beastmaster has been a staple of the franchise, reappearing in Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy: Tactics Advance, and several other FF games. Falling under the melee DPS role, Beastmaster tames creatures to fight alongside their new companion. Sounds fun, right? If so, here’s how to unlock FFXIV’s newest job. 🐏
Harness the Power of Beastmaster
To unlock Beastmaster, you’ll first need to complete the main scenario quest “The Ultimate Weapon.” Additionally, you’ll need to have a Disciple of War or Disciple of Magic job at Level 50 or above.
If you meet these requirements, head to New Gridania and enter the Adventurers’ Guild. Talk to the Excited Adventurer to the left of Miounne’s booth at X:11.8, Y:13.6. This will trigger the Beastmaster job quest “Strangers in the Wood.”
The quest itself isn’t difficult but set aside a few minutes to progress through several cutscenes. After completion of the quest, you’ll receive the Soul of the Beastmaster, Cu Sith Gourd, Beast Herder’s Hand Axe, Beast Herder’s Hoplon, and Beast Herder’s Coffer. The gourd will add Cu Sith to your collection, but you’ll also need to assign your new friend to the Battlehorn in the Master’s Bestiary. As expected, the coffer contains the starter Beastmaster attire.
After you’ve equipped the job stone and appropriate weapon, you can begin your journey as a new Beastmaster!
Beastmaster Limitations and Perks
Like Blue Mage, Beastmaster is a limited job and has certain restrictions. You won’t be able to execute role actions, and you can accept only job quests and quests available to all jobs and classes. You also can’t assign the Beastmaster job to your retainers.
Beastmasters can participate in duties with other players in preformed or unrestricted parties. Beastmasters cannot, however, access other kinds of duties. Per the official FFXIV website, these include:
- Duty Roulettes
- The Forbidden Land, Eureka / The Bozjan Southern Front / The Occult Crescent / Variant Dungeons / Criterion Dungeons / Ultimate Raids / Stone, Sky, Sea
- Squadron Missions
- Deep Dungeons
- PvP, including duels
- Hall of the Novice
Don’t let all of this turn you off from a potentially fun job, though. Much like the Masked Carnivale for Blue Mages, the Crucible of the Unbroken provides solo challenge content exclusively for Beastmasters. Another bonus is that you gain more experience points from participating in FATEs than other jobs do.
