A Stable Meta Arrives? Popularity and DPS Rankings: Week 4 Raid Logs

Things are getting pretty solid here in the raid rankings. After two weeks of no class tuning and players (mostly) getting their set bonuses, we see a very real picture of what things are, and possibly will be, like. Heroic is still gaining players, but much more slowly, while Mythic is increasing its growth speed. The two biggest moves of the week are Augmentation’s big performance in the damage department and Retribution gaining a lot of players, so let’s dive in.

Note: We are using normalized scores instead of raw DPS for the Warcraft Logs rankings. Normalized scores take into account the outlier boss fights where certain specs could stack massive DPS (due to the nature of the fight, whether it’s AoE spam or something else), which would then affect their overall score for the whole raid.

Note 2: Warcraft Logs bundled the Lair boss, Nymrissa Wavecaller, from the Tidebound Grotto into the Venomous Abyss rankings, which means the logs from here affect the overall rankings you can see below.

Heroic Venomous Abyss

Heroic’s population keeps rising, but significantly slower than before, around 10%. Arcane has gained another 30k logs or so, but remains at the same distance from Arms in 2nd. Retribution is still in 3rd but gained a lot, around 50k to get within a few thousand of Arms. The top 10 is very stable, but we do see Frost DK getting some action after the buffs from a while ago, moving into 10th. Just above it we have a Demon Hunter switch-off, as Havoc takes Devourer’s place, and the new spec drops a huge 6 spots down to 15th. The bottom 3 remain the same, each only gaining around 1k logs this week.

Heroic Spec Population

Overall Damage 95th Percentile

We have bad news for Rogues, as two of them drop a spot. Balance pushes Subtlety out of 5th, and Devastation moves Assassination down to 8th. We then have a very surprising visitor at the end of the top 10, as Augmentation busts seven spots up! The triple F gang is still at the bottom, with Fire making it past Feral, but probably won’t be catching Beast Mastery any time soon.

The generalist bracket really showcases how stable things have gotten without the weekly class tuning pass. All top 10 specs are in the same spot as last week! Marksmanship has pulled out ahead, and the Rogues are doing a little better, but that’s about it. Just outside the top 10, we see Havoc surging, gaining three spots in 11th and making good use of its increased playerbase. The bottom is also stable, still sporting triple F.

Damage to Bosses

The top 10 is almost identical to last week’s, but right at the end we have Augmentation jump in and push past the two Warlocks.

Individual Bosses

Nymrissa Wavecaller (Tidebound Grotto Lair)

Nymrissa is listed as belonging to the Venomous Abyss on WCLogs.

The Twin Fangs

Frost is doing even better than last week, pushing Demo out of the way!

The Coiled Altar

A wild Augmentation appears all the way up in 5th place, climbing six!

Ula’tek

Arms and Windwalker take a bit of a tumble this week.

A Look at Mythic

While Heroic’s rise in players is getting incremental, Mythic’s is still very much in full swing. We have almost double the logs here, and with the nerfs coming this reset, we’re probably going to see even more next week. Having said that, Mythic is still pretty much under 10% of Heroic’s population. We also see a lot more movement here. Demo is rising fast, gaining two spots in 3rd, while Marksmanship fell off quite a bit down in 6th. Beast Mastery is on the opposite end of that Hunter scale, moving four up into 7th.

Mythic Spec Population

Overall Damage, All Percentiles

Frost Mage’s excellent performance last week did not carry over, as the spec plummets eight spots and drops out of the top 10. Retribution is heading the opposite way, gaining two spots to land in 4th. While we don’t have two Mages in the top 10 anymore, we sure still have all three Warlocks, with Affliction rising one, and Destruction even gaining three spots in 7th! Devastation’s also on the rise, busting into the top 10 with its 4-spot leap, now sitting in 8th. Unholy digs its way out of the bottom 3, leaving Devourer to join Fury and Beast Mastery.
