Subtlety Survives Nerf, Evokers Riding High, Heroic Swells! 12.1.5 Week 3 Raid Log Popularity and DPS Rankings

It’s been a crazy two weeks, as we had the tuning pass which changed a whole lot! The top dog survived the nerf, but lost a lot of DPS, while Marksmanship and Fire made some great use of their buffs. Heroic got a whole lot of new players coming in from Mythic+, and plenty more moved around, so let’s dive in.

Note: We are using normalized scores instead of raw DPS for the Warcraft Logs rankings. Normalized scores take into account the outlier boss fights where certain specs could stack massive DPS (due to the nature of the fight, whether it’s AoE spam or something else), which would then affect their overall score for the whole raid.

Note 2: Warcraft Logs bundled the Lair boss, Nymrissa Wavecaller, from the Tidebound Grotto into the Venomous Abyss rankings, which means the logs from here affect the overall rankings you can see below.

Mythic Venomous Abyss

The numbers hold compared to two weeks ago, as Mythic retains its playerbase, which remains around 10% of Heroic’s. As mentioned in the title, Subtlety survives its nerf, remaining at the top of the DPS list, so its population has increased as well. We see the Rogue in 6th overall, three spots up from last we checked two weeks ago. Elemental drops two spots, one to accommodate the Rogue, and the other to Balance, which stays still despite taking down the Shaman. Marksmanship takes down Frost DK, which finds itself two down in 10th. The bottom 3 of Outlaw, Fire, and Survival remain the same, with the Mage pushing past the Rogue.

Subtlety holds its throne even after the tuning! Despite that, the nerfs still had a pretty solid effect, dropping its lead by more than half. We also see a change in 2nd place, as Devastation overtakes Augmentation, but the Evokers are basically identical. The DoTers are still fighting it out for 4th, with Affliction coming out ahead of Shadow.

Despite being in the very bottom of the popularity chart, Fire EXPLODES in the DPS charts, as its very few players are doing really well! It is now the top Mage spec by a wide margin, moving a whopping 15 spots into 6th! With a jump this big, there’s either something fishy going on, or the 500 Fire players really went for it after the most recent 5% buff. Demonology had a really bad two weeks, dropping out of the top 10 and losing 7 spots. Marksmanship makes a big move as well, six spots up in 9th, just ahead of a two-spots-down Balance which closes out the top 10.

Subtlety’s lead dropped by less here, but that’s usually how it goes with the slower-to-update generalist bracket. We also see the Evokers doing a lot worse, with only Augmentation managing to hold on to the top 3. Devastation drops three spots into 7th, as Affliction rises three spots to 2nd, pushing Shadow down one. Fire is doing well here too, but it was already pushing hard even two weeks ago, so it “only” gains three spots in 5th. Marksmanship and Fire swap spots in the “insane leap” category here, as it’s the Hunter that skyrockets 16 spots, landing right behind the Mage in 6th. Assassination makes a comeback, gaining a huge 8 spots in 9th, right ahead of Frost Mage, which is also on the upswing.

Damage to Bosses

Subtlety’s power still stems at least in part from the single-target profile. as it retains its No.1 spot, this time from a surging Assassination. Augmentation pushes up into a DK sandwich, and Feral is also making some moves in 6th.

Individual Bosses

We have the new boss in town and the last three Abyss bosses to check out.

Kith’ix

Devourers are making a name for themselves on Kith’ix, moving eight spots up all the way into 2nd place. Subtlety isn’t dominating quite as much here, but it’s still comfortably in the lead. Hunters, even of the non-demon variety are also doing really well here.

Twin Fangs

Fury joins the Arms-double-Frost combo at the top, gaining a lot of ground and pushing Retribution down one.

The Coiled Altar

The few Outlaw Rogues pulled some tricks here, as they not only took over in first place, but also gained over twenty spots to do so, coming right up from the bottom. We’ll see if we find them anywhere near here next week.

Ula’tek

Assassination manages to claw its way back to the top and defeat its fellow Rogue. Windwalker also manages to push past Subtlety and into 2nd, as Enhancement gains six spots to move into 4th.

Heroic Venomous Abyss

Heroic Abyss is actually gaining players, and a pretty solid amount at that. The top three specs alone each gained between 40 ad 75 thousand players, with the bottom specs almost doubling their numbers. The average growth comes out to around 15-20%. As we covered last week, this is indicative of players heading to Heroic instead of Mythic+ due to the better loot, which you can read about here. Aside from the overall swell of players, we see Arms lose out to Beast Mastery in third and Subtlety continue to climb and gain 5 spots in 6th.

Ula’tek

Havoc has pushed to the top here, but it’s Marksmanship that makes the huge move, gaining 8 spots in 2nd!
