Mounts are a big deal in Ashes of Creation! Not only do they make traveling faster and, therefore, gameplay more convenient, but also because – let’s be honest – who does not want to ride something cooler than the starter horse? Luckily, there are plenty of mounts to obtain in the game, but the process is not always straightforward.
If you have been wondering why you keep getting Raptor Carcasses instead of an actual Raptor mount, it appears you are not alone in that thought! A recent Reddit discussion shed some light on how to successfully tame one.
How to Get Your First Mount
You will not be running everywhere forever! Your first mount can be acquired quite early in the game, through the Sweat of Your Brow quest in the starting areas. But after that, most mounts are found in the wild and need to be tamed manually.
Hunting and Taming
Hunting is one of the gathering professions in Ashes of Creation, letting you track and capture animals across Verra. To get started, you will need a Crude Hunting Bow, which you can get through early quests. As you explore, keep an eye out for animals marked with white text and a crosshair icon—these can be tamed. If you are successful, you will either capture the creature alive or end up with a carcass. A live capture can be used in Animal Husbandry, where you can turn it into a mount or a pack animal.
How to Get a Raptor Mount
Raptors are one of the most popular mounts in Ashes of Creation, but getting one is not as simple as just clicking a button or looting it.
- Raptors must be hunted and tamed in the wild.
- There is only a 10% chance of taming one successfully.
- Most of the time, you will end up with just a Raptor Carcass instead.
Some AoC players claim that taming works better at night, but in the end, it is all about RNG. If you do not get a mount, at least you can sell the carcasses for some good profit at the leather market!

Either way; if you are struggling to get the Raptor, do not give up! Keep trying, sell your carcasses, and maybe your luck will turn around!
