In a new Borderlands 4 gameplay breakdown, Gearbox has officially lifted the veil on Vex, one of the Vault Hunters joining the roster in the next mainline entry. With heavy inspiration from necromancer and ranger archetypes, Vex is the first Siren in the series to head deep into kinetic damage, minion summoning, and lifesteal-based gameplay.
Oh, and did we mention she’s got a ghost cat?

A Siren Unlike Any Before
Vex is a gothic super-star built for players who love high-sustain builds, summoner archetypes, and action RPG-style combat. While her Siren lineage gives her access to godlike powers, she also draws from the fantasy of commanding spectral forces: draining enemies, summoning undead-like allies, and constantly staying in the fight with cooldown reduction and health-stealing mechanics.
Her abilities lean into survivability, fast-paced rotations, and rewarding strategic playstyles.
Trouble Is Her Companion – Literally

One of her core skills, Phase Phamiliar, lets her summon Trouble, a spectral cat who can:
- Be teleported across the battlefield for smart repositioning
- Crit enemies regardless of where they are hit
- Absorb damage while continuing to attack
It is a flexible, ranger-style summon that fits perfectly with her spectral theme.
Go Full Spectral with Incarnate

Vex’s most flashy skill, Incarnate, transforms her into a full-on spectral being:
- Opens with a massive explosion
- Grants her wings and a floating orb that fires eldritch blasts
- Shortens cooldowns with every hit, creating a fast-paced, aggressive loop
- Includes upgrades like Geist Wave, floating AoE orbs, lifesteal, and defensive boosts
It is a go-to skill for players who want a powerful, visually striking combat transformation.
The Fourth Seal: Dead Ringer

With Dead Ringer, Vex can summon one of two types of spectral allies:
- Specters – Long-range DPS clones that stay stationary and snipe targets
- Reapers – Melee tanks with scythes that taunt enemies and soak up hits
Dead Ringer is your perfect necromancer ability: summon minions, let them do the job!
If you love running a full army of spectral summons, the Fourth Seal skill tree is where Vex truly shines. This tree focuses on:
- Controlling multiple minions simultaneously
- Combining her various summons into devastating synergies
- Embracing the full “undead general” fantasy with creative, customizable builds
With her unique mix of summoning, lifesteal, and dark energy, Vex looks like a dream pick for players who enjoy necromancer-style gameplay or high-mobility spellcasters. Her visual design and mechanical strength make her one of the most exciting Sirens ever introduced.
If you are in it for the cat, the chaos, or the clever builds, Vex is going to be the one character you need to play in Borderlands 4.
