China’s Top University Launches Genshin Impact Political Science Courses

Such a fan of the Genshin Impact lore that you could write a thesis on it? Look no further with Peking University, widely regarded as one of the most prestigious universities in China, has announced two new Genshin Impact-themed political science discussion courses for the incoming 2025 freshman class. Titled “Launching Genshin: The Historical Model of Snezhnaya” and “Launching Genshin: The Political Philosophies of Teyvat”.

According to official course listings and translations provided by Chibiyoipo on social media and then shared to the Genshin Impact subreddit, the first course will be taught by Associate Professor Fei Haiting, whose research focuses on political transformation in Russia and Eastern Europe. The course will examine the historical inspirations behind Snezhnaya, a nation in Genshin Impact that draws heavily from Russian and Soviet themes.

The second course will be led by Assistant Professor Pang Liang, a scholar of political philosophy educated in Paris. His class will delve into the broader political ideologies reflected in the various nations of Teyvat. Both courses are part of PKU’s Research Centre for Chinese Politics under the School of Government, these coures are more than likely using Genshin Impact as a stepping stone to attract people into History and Philosopy courses. Although it is a little funny that there will be a Snezhnaya-focused course for a region that does not yet exist.
