Fellowship Sylvie Hero Healer Guide

Sylvie is an Intellect-based Healer who provides some of the strongest healing output in the game. Sylvie’s playstyle consists of utilizing heal-over-time spells and powerful, but delayed, healing abilities. She focuses primarily on keeping her group healthy by harnessing the powers of her Flutterflies and Flowers to restore health.

To use Sylvie effectively, you will need to plan ahead. As your knowledge of the game and its different dungeons and enemies increases, Sylvie will get easier to play. It is challenging to play Sylvie as a reactive healer due to the nature of how her heal-over-time spells work. Preventing damage is a massive part of Sylvie’s arsenal of supportive spells as well, which is only effective when used in anticipation of damage rather than after the damage has already been dealt.

This guide will teach you the basics of playing Sylvie in Fellowship, how to use her abilities, and which talents to use for the best build.

How to Play Sylvie — Basic Ability Guide

Your primary goal as Sylvie is to keep you and your group alive. A core element of any caster, whether it’s a DPS or a healer, is to Always Be Casting (ABC). When you have no healing to do or are ever in doubt of what to cast next, use Nettlebolt or Prickly Vine as a filler, if it’s available.

Having a strong understanding of each of your abilities will allow not only your group to survive more comfortably, but also how to deal damage to eliminate threats and crush dungeon timers faster.

Pink Flutterflies

Your Pink Flutterflies will be your primary source of passive healing as Sylvie, both thanks to Fluttercall: Heal and Fluttercall: Restore Life. Sylvie has access to four Pink Flutterflies allowing you to assign one Pink Flutterfly to each of your party members with Fluttercall: Heal. Keep in mind that the Pink Flutterfly from Fluttercall: Heal can only be active once on a target. Once you’ve applied Fluttercall: Heal to your target, there is no reason to cast it again on a target that already has a Pink Flutterfly attached to them. This changes with the use of the Flutterswift (5b) talent that we will discuss in the builds section below.

Fluttercall: Restore Life can serve as a more reactive heal or a way to stay ahead of incoming damage on a target who’s likely to take more damage. It’s almost always a good idea to keep this extra heal-over-time effect from this active on your tank or anyone with a damage-over-time effect that your Fluttercall: Heal won’t be able to handle on its own.

Restore Life Weaving

One of the basic fundamentals for Sylvie’s utilizing Restore Life Weaving.

The ability, Fluttercall: Restore Life, requires at least 2 Pink Flutterflies in your flutterfly reserves. This means that, if you have more than 2 Pink Flutterflies out, it will bring back the oldest Pink Flutterflies applied so that you will have 2 Pink Flutterflies in reserve. If you use Fluttercall: Restore Life back-to-back, you will end up having 4 Pink Flutterflies in reserve. Using Fluttercall: Restore Life without utilizing Restore Life Weaving leads to mana and GCD inefficiency.

Restore Life Weaving, also known as RL Weaving, is the practice of weaving in other abilities in-between our Fluttercall: Restore Life casts. This ensures that we will always have 2 Pink Flutterflies out and minimize needing to reapply them to benefit from the passive HoT. While there are situations where using Fluttercall: Restore Life back-to-back is necessary for survival, we should aim to utilize Restore Life Weaving whenever possible.

An example of RL Weaving:

Fluttercall: Restore Life -> Life Petal -> Fluttercall: Restore Life

2 Pink Flutterflies in reserves for use in Fluttercall: Restore Life

Flowers

Life Petal and Heart Bloom are your two other healing abilities and compliment your Pink Flutterfly healing well.

  • Life Petal starts strong, each pulse healing your most injured ally, pulsing periodically for 14 seconds. This healing will begin to wane as the Life Petal approaches the end of its duration. This ability has a 60-second cooldown, two charges, and is affected by your Haste stat, recharging faster as your Haste scales higher. It is also affected by Nettlebolt’s Petal Germination passive, further reducing the cooldown of Life Petal with each hit of Nettlebolt.
Do not be afraid to use Life Petal early and often, typically towards the start of pulls when the most enemies are alive or during a period of time where you can expect a large amount of incoming damage.
  • Instead of ramping down as with Life Petal, Heart Bloom ramps up in healing efficacy over time, gaining strength and outputting more healing as it stores Pink Flutterfly healing while active. 12% of your Pink Flutterfly healing will be stored inside the Heart Bloom, pulsing healing every 3 seconds to all allies for an equal amount based on the amount of Pink Flutterfly healing it has stored.
This is ideally used a few seconds before large incoming damage so that it has time to store Pink Flutterfly healing from your passive Fluttercall: Heal, the initial hit of Fluttercall: Restore Life, and the passive HoT from Fluttercall: Restore Life.

Blue Flutterfly

While not a healing button, another ability tool in Sylvie’s toolkit is Fluttercall: Protect. Fluttercall: Protect is a utility ability that assigns Sylvie’s Blue Flutterfly, Bluey, to protect an ally. Having the Blue Flutterfly attached to another player increases their healing received by 100% from your Flutterfly Healing. It is typically best to leave the Blue Flutterfly on your tank.

You can also consider keeping the Blue Flutterfly on yourself. When active on Sylvie, the Blue Flutterfly increases all Flutterfly Healing done by 50% and reduces the mana cost of all abilities by 20%. It’s a good idea to pull Bluey back to yourself when unavoidable, party-wide damage is imminent.

Cure Ailment

Many enemies in Fellowship can apply harmful effects to party members. The ones that we can interact with through our dispel ability, Cure Ailment, are the harmful magical effects applied to party members. The best way to tell whether a party member needs a dispel is to look at your party frames. A party member affected by a harmful magical effect will have the top-left section of their health bar covered in blue. This effect will have a blue border of the same shade.

A non-magical effect is something that we cannot remove with our Cure Ailment dispel. Non-magical effects will have a red border, and the party frame will not have the blue section on the top-left.

If you find yourself struggling to keep up with a large number of dispels, such as the ones in Sailor’s Abyss or Silken Hollow, consider taking an Ancient Wardstone with you.

Damage

Sylvie’s kit also comes with an impressive arsenal of damage-dealing abilities that can not only deal damage but also bolster her healing output thanks to some of her talents. Nettlebolt is your primary filler ability on Sylvie. It’s perfect for when you find yourself in a situation where your group is healthy, and you can spare a few global cooldowns to deal damage. Nettlebolt can also help you stay ahead of incoming damage thanks to Petal Germination. This reduces the cooldown of your Life Petal ability by 1.5 seconds each time it hits, or by 3 seconds each time it crits.

Prickly Vine is another great way to deal some extra damage on Sylvie and gain some bonus healing. This ability has a short cooldown and spawns a vine minion that will attack enemies for 27 seconds. Prickly Vine costs almost no mana so there is very little reason not to use it on cooldown, assuming you have the global cooldowns to spare. Each active Prickly Vine increases your Flutterfly Healing by 3%. It will also spawn one Boomshroom when it expires. Be sure to use this ability off-cooldown when possible to maximize your healing and damage output.

And last but certainly not least in Sylvie’s damage arsenal is Shroomsplosion. Shroomsplosion commands all of Sylvie’s mature Boomshrooms to launch on an enemy target, detonating on hit and dealing damage to the target and any enemies near the target. If you find yourself struggling with a specific mob type, consider pooling your Boomshrooms to defeat them faster.

Mitigation

Sylvie also has some incredibly powerful cooldowns to deal with all kinds of dangerous situations. Understanding how to utilize each of these abilities can help you not only survive dangerous encounters but also keep your group healthy, allowing for quicker completion of your current challenge.

  • Ironleaf Ward reduces the damage taken by a friendly target by 20% for 12 seconds. This is a great way to mitigate incoming damage on your tank when they are doing a large pull or when an unavoidable, high-damage attack targets a party member. The idea is to reduce the amount of healing needed to bring your ally back to health and to prevent your party member from taking a lethal amount of damage. This ability has a 60-second cooldown, so make sure to use it early and often to enable larger pulls. If you’re playing with a Tank you are familiar with, consider communicating your cooldown uses so you can reduce the time spent healing and increase the time spent dealing damage.
  • Safe Haven is a ground-targeted area ability where all allies inside of it will receive 40% additional healing. This is a great way to keep your group alive through massive incoming AoE damage and can be used as a Tank or personal defensive cooldown if you would otherwise struggle to keep up. This ability has a 2-minute cooldown. It’s a bit of a longer cooldown, but well-planned uses of this throughout a dungeon will make everyone’s lives considerably easier.
  • Enfeebling Rootsap is a bit different than most traditional defensive cooldowns. This ability commands one of your Prickly Vines to Enfeeble a target, causing it to deal 20% less damage for 10 seconds. This is a great way to deal with all kinds of damage, but especially unavoidable, heavy damage such as some party-wide AoEs or tank-buster attacks. Understanding when a big hit is coming and counteracting it with Enfeebling Rootsap can make it considerably easier to manage.

Sylvie’s Ultimate – Fluttercall: Jubilee

Fluttercall: Jubilee is Sylvie’s ultimate ability. This ability summons Dream Flutterflies that will evenly distribute all health between your party every 2 seconds for 10 seconds. This is a great way to catch back up after unexpected damage to your group or in a situation where a massive attack is likely to be too much to heal otherwise. This ability also spawns six Prickly Vines, which will help deal damage to your enemies, grants you an 18% heal boost to your Flutterfly healing through Prickly Vine’s passive, and also grants you the Spirit of Heroism buff that greatly increases your Haste and Mana regeneration for 20 seconds, allowing you to pump out massive amounts of healing.

Sylvie Talents Build Progression

Sylvie’s talents are filled with all kinds of ways to both increase your healing output and damage mitigation. Your talent choices as Sylvie will depend on content difficulty and your current gear. While it is hard to say any specific talent is required to play Sylvie, some will significantly improve your gameplay experience. Talents like Verdant Restoration (1C) substantially increase the Critical Strike chance of your Fluttercall: Restore Life’s initial heal, or Flower Power (5C), which grants you another charge of your Heart Bloom ability, allowing you to stay ahead of incoming damage.

It is important to note that the talents you take on Sylvie will depend entirely on the kind of content you are currently progressing through. Sometimes you will not need as much healing and can focus on dealing some more damage. Other times, you will need more passive damage mitigation to survive otherwise deadly attacks. The recommended talent progression below focuses on maximizing your ability to restore Mana, output healing, and mitigate damage. Remember not to take talent trees as is and adjust for any legendary or weapon trees you get, or content you are doing.

Stat Priority

Secondary stats have the following effect for Sylvie:

  • Haste – Increases your casting speed, the rate at which heal-over-time effects heal, and reduces your global cooldown (GCD).
  • Spirit – Increases the rate you charge your spirit ability. Spirit also provides a chance to refund any mana spent when using abilities that cost Mana. Each time the refund is triggered it will spawn a Prickly Vine.
  • Critical Strike – Chance for damage and healing effects to crit, doubling their effect.
  • Expertise – Increases your damage, healing, and the effectiveness of your absorbs.

Intellect is by far your highest priority stat as it increases your base healing and damage, which means that item level will be your highest priority. The extra stamina from higher item level pieces also greatly increases your survivability.

It’s worth noting that secondary stats on gear have diminishing returns. Keeping this in mind, we should look to spread our secondary stats out.

Highlighted below is how you should generally prioritize your secondary stats:

Haste > Critical Strike > Expertise > Spirit

Haste is Sylvie’s best secondary stat. While most of her abilities are instant casts, the primary benefit of Haste is the increased tick rate of heal-over-time effects from your Flutterfly Healing and Life Petal cooldown.

Critical Strike doubles the effectiveness of our Healing and Damaging effects resulting in some extra throughput. This stat also helps gain additional Life Petal casts thanks to the Petal Germination aspect of Nettlebolt.

Expertise increases your Healing and Damage output by a flat amount. This stat is ranked at the bottom of our list simply because Expertise scales differently than the other secondary stats.

Spirit is our last choice for our secondary stats as it has the least impact on our healing throughput. It increases our DPS through spawning more Prickly Vines to do priority target damage and generating more Boomshrooms. If we are struggling with mana management, Spirit is not a good answer to that problem as it is not consistent enough to be reliable. However, due to Diminishing Returns, we will still want to allocate some of our stats from gear into Spirit.

Gearing Priority

  2. Legendary Item

Set Bonues

Set bonuses on gear can be huge boosts to our power, but time consuming to accomplish. It’s generally a good idea to hold off on farming for a specific set until you hit Paragon or if you’re feeling stuck at any particular capstone.

You can equip up to 4 set bonuses total: 2 sets from any non-capstone dungeon and 2 sets from any capstone dungeon. Keep in mind that gear pieces cannot have both a set bonus and a socket. Many of the top Sylvie players opt to have all Essence Bonus sockets rather than use Set Bonuses.

Below are the different set bonuses that are worth the time to farm for until we can fill out our gear with more socketed Essence Bonus gear.

Set BonusDungeon(s)Reasoning
Torment of Bael’Aurum– Wraithtide VaultIt combines increasing our damage and healing through increasing our Primary Stat, and survivability with the emergency heal when we reach a low threshold.
Tuzari Grace– Everdawn Grove,
– Urrak Markets
This increases our Haste and is not affected by diminishing returns. The increased movespeed can help us reposition faster without needing to use our Hidden Trail ability.
Eldrin Deceit– Godfall Quarry,
– Wyrmheart
This set works well with the Nettle to the Petal talent by increasing the chance of doubling our Nettlebolt’s cooldown reduction of Life Petal through Petal Germination.
Sin Warding– Empyrean Sands,
– Sailor’s Abyss
Increases our max hp, allowing us to survive more damage as well as increasing our base healing & damage through the Expertise increase. This extra Expertise is not affected by diminishing returns.

You can learn more about set bonuses here.

Gems

Gems for Sylvie are relatively straight forward, your primary focus should be maximizing the amount of Topaz’s in your gear to maximize your Haste rating as key abilities like Fluttercall: Restore Life scale with your haste and this will often yield the greatest increase in healing output.

A breakdown of each Gem:

  • Topaz gems grant Haste, which significantly impacts our healing output.
  • Rubies increase Sylvie’s primary stat, Intellect.
  • Diamonds increase all secondary stats but at a much lower rate than specific gems.
  • Sapphires increases the benefits of your Fluttercall: Jubilee ability and grants passive stats.
  • Emerald increases Expertise which is a flat healing increase.
  • Amethyst increases Critical Strike which increases the impact of our heals and our Nettlebolt ability helping reduce the cooldown of our Life Petal ability.

When working with Tier 1 gems, the priority is:

  1. Rubies = Amethyst
  2. Topaz = Diamond
  3. Sapphire = Emerald

The priority shifts once you’re able to gain more gem power. As you progress, the primary gem you’ll want to invest in will be different depending on what build you are running. We will go over two of the top gem builds for Sylvie.

Many high-Eternal players aim to drop all set bonuses in favor of more gem power. The gem power distribution that many high-level Sylvies use consists of either Topaz at tier 10 with Ruby and Amethyst at tier 6 or Emerald at tier 10 with Amethyst at tier 6, Topaz at tier 5, and Ruby at tier 2.

Using Fellowsguide’s Gem Calculator, we can show the optimal gem distribution for each distribution type. The one you pursue will be solely based on your playstyle and preferences.

End-Game Gem Build

Topaz 10, Ruby 6, Amethyst 6

This is the standard Sylvie build. It looks to stack Haste further with Topaz gem power while grabbing Sealed Fate II to almost guarantee us to crit on anyone above 50% hp, and Might of the Minotaur to increase our primacy stat by a hefty 8% while we are over 80% health.

Emerald 10, Amethyst 6, Topaz 5, Ruby 2

In this build, we sacrifice some Haste in favor of having all out cooldowns decreased by 12% from our Emerald’s Blessing of the Commander II. Having our cooldowns reduced allows us to use our powerful cooldowns more often, including our weapon ability.

Weapons

Once you pass Cithrel’s Fall and get into the Adept league, you’ll have access to Weapons and Relics with active abilities. In this section, we will discuss the best option for this build and go over all the other options available.

There are two weapons that are typically favored in the meta by Sylvie players: Zeraleth’s Scythe and Repository of Frozen Light.

  • Zeraleth’s Scythe is a great choice for dealing large single-target damage while also providing healing to yourself and any overhealing on yourself heals your party instead.
  • Repository of Frozen Light is capable of a significant amount of healing, especially in encounters where there are frequent, small ticks of damage being dealt to the party. The drawback is that there is not offensive aspect to this weapon.
  • Sickle of Feylight Gardens is a great choice if you need to have a big burst heal your party. It also bounces to 4 enemies within range to deal damage.
  • Elheryn’s Cache can be good for single-target burst healing/damage and doesn’t have a cast time. It gets even better with more Haste and with specific weapon perks that you gain once you gain access to the Champion-level weapons.

Weapon Traits

Weapon traits are unlocked once you reach Champion League in the Challenge mode. All Weapon Traits are randomized from weapon to weapon, so your BiS weapon may still have yet to drop! Try to save your resources for when you reach Eternal. There are 3 categories of weapon traits: Master, Defensive, and Heroic. You can choose 2 Defensive, 2 Heroic, and 1 Master trait per weapon.

Once you obtain a yellow Paragon-tiered weapon, you will gain the option to enhance your weapon traits. The base rank will be the first number listed in the table below. It is recommended to avoid enhancing your weapon traits until you have an Eternal version of your weapon, as you are not able to get any of the money invested into trait enhancements back when scraping.

If you wish to learn more, Teloril wrote a more in-depth guide about weapons and their traits

Defensive Traits

The Defensive Traits that we want to take will either increase our overall health pool and decrease damage taken. The best Defensive Traits include Heart of Stone, King of the Hill, Treasure Hunter’s Delight, and Divine Mediation.

Our two BiS for defensive traits are Heart of Stone and King of the Hill.

IconNameDescription
Heart of StoneOne of the best defensive talents to take since it increases our Stamina, which affects our max health. This is something that can be invaluable the higher you climb as it will give you breathing room if you get hit by an instance of high damage.
King of the HillThis trait is a great companion to Heart of Stone as it functions in tandem to prevent an instance of high damage from bringing you down. It doesn’t have a cooldown, so as long as you are above 80% health you will benefit from this talent.
Treasure Hunter’s DelightSynergises well with the Sinbinding Stone relic that grants all party members 15% damage reduction as you will also gain an additional 20% damage reduction on use. While this damage reduction is conditional and dependent on your relic cooldowns, this can be an invaluable survival tool to cycle along with your Unbreakable Will ability.
Divine MediationAn honorable mention. This trait is an option that benefits your party as well as yourself. Any instance of damage taken has a chance to give you a HoT that grants a party-wide shield to mitigate damage on expiration.

Heroic Traits

Heroic Traits are weapon traits that increase your secondary stats and/or your primary stat. The Heroic Traits we want to take increase our primary stat or the secondary stats that we wish to prioritize. The best Heroic Traits to take include Inspired Allegiance, Willful Momentum, and Navigator’s Intuition.

Our two BiS heroic traits are Inspired Allegiance and Willful Momentum.

IconNameDescription
Inspired AllegianceWhen this trait procs, it increases the Haste rating for youself and your allies. The main attraction is that it also decreases your weapon’s ability cooldown. This heroic trait is arguably our BiS option for any weapon.
Willful MomentumThe Spirit stat earned from this weapon trait does not contribute to diminishing returns. The primary effWe may want to pool our DPS resources, such as Boomshrooms and our weapon ability, when this heroic trait procs.
Navigator’s IntuitionIncreases your highest secondary stat by a flat amount. The amount gained can be a substantial increase, especially once you Empower the trait. The highest secondary stat is determined by the flat amount rather than the percentage shown in the Character Info screen.
Secondary Stat Value

Master Traits

Master traits augment the weapon by enhancing its effects. The best Master Traits we can take depend on which weapon you use. We typically want the option between one cooldown reduction focused trait and one that focuses on healing and damage output.

If you choose to use Zeraleth’s Scythe, the BiS Master Traits are Heroic Brand and Visions of Grandeur OR Brave Machinations.

IconNameDescription
Heroic BrandOur BiS master weapon trait for Zeraleth’s Scythe. It increases our damage and healing output of our weapon ability, essentially turning the weapon ability into an invincibility button for you and your party.
Visions of Grandeur This weapon ability gains increased Spirit generation on hit and resets the cooldown of our weapon ability upon the use of our Spirit Ability, Fluttercall: Jubilee.
Brave Machinations This increases the Critical Strike of our weapon ability and decreases the cooldown of our weapon ability if it lands a critical strike. This is our second best Master Trait as it reduces the cooldown of our weapon by ~21 seconds.

Sylvie Legendaries

Mossy Veil of the Woodlands (Back)

  • While your Fluttercall: Restore Life is active on a target, their stamina is increased by 10% and their Armor is increased by 20%.

Amulet of Unyielding Bloom (Necklace)

  • 75% of any overhealing done to a player by Heart Bloom is applied as an absorb to that player for up to 15 seconds. The Absorb can not exceed a value of 1232% Intellect.

Moccasins of the First Dryad (Boots)

  • Your Safe Haven now grants 10% damage reduction to affected players and causes a Life Petal to spawn at the center once Safe Haven expires.
  • All your Life Petal healing has +30% critical strike chance.

Advanced Sylvie Builds

These are some additional builds to consider when you have reached 13 Talent Points and approximately 33% Haste to reach the Flower Power breakpoint. You should have both Heart Blooms back off cooldown within a minute or so. This will enable you to have both Heart Blooms available for each unavoidable, party-wide, high-damage phase from a boss.

Moccasins’ Build

This build is intended for use with the legendary boots, Moccasins of the First Dryad. This build shines in Boomshroom generation and focuses on Life Petal and Safe Haven uptime through spamming Nettlebolts. This build works best when you’re pushing content that involves heavy AoE damage, where your party can stack inside your Safe Haven.

Moccasins' Talent Tree: Nettle to the Petal (1a), Verdant Restoration (1c), Natural Knowledge (2b), Nurtured Haven (4a), Magic Ward (4b), Bluey's Gambit (4c), Flower Power (5c), Elusive Wildling (6a), Spirited Fortitude (6c).

Heartbloom Build

This build is intended for use on its own or in tandem with the legendary amulet, Amulet of Unyielding Bloom. While this build is also effective against heavy AoE, the advantage of using this build is a more comfortable healing experience overall.

Heart Bloom Talent Tree: Nettle to the Petal (1a), Verdant Restoration (1c), Natural Knowledge (2b), Trailing Restoration (2c), Magic Ward (4b), Bluey's Gambit (4c), Flower Power (5c), Elusive Wildling (6a), Spirited Fortitude (6c).

The Trailing Restoration, Nettle to the Petal, and Verdant Restoration talents can be dropped in favor of Synchronized Fluttering and Flutterswift. Both are viable builds to run; their effectiveness depends on your playstyle.

Heart Bloom Talent Tree, Flutter Variant: Synchronized Fluttering (1b), Flutterswift (5b), Natural Knowledge (2b), Magic Ward (4b), Bluey's Gambit (4c), Flower Power (5c), Elusive Wildling (6a), Spirited Fortitude (6c).

Woodlands’ Cloak Build

This build is intended for use on its own or in tandem with the legendary cloak, Mossy Veil of the Woodlands. The legendary cloak is often used when pushing high Eternals to increase the effective HP of your party members. The bottleneck for healers in the higher Eternals will be whether your party can survive the damage being dealt. If you wish to increase the effective HP of your party further, you can drop Trailing Restoration, Magic Ward, and Spirited Fortitude in favor of Natural Protector.

Woodlands' Talent Tree: Nettle to the Petal (1a), Verdant Restoration (1c), Natural Knowledge (2b), Nurtured Haven (4a), Magic Ward (4b), Bluey's Gambit (4c), Flower Power (5c), Elusive Wildling (6a), Spirited Fortitude (6c).
