PAYDAY 2 Adds Monthly Subscription, But Do Players Want It?

Everyone knows that PAYDAY 2 has a mountain of DLC, both good and bad, but rather than buying it, would you pay a monthly subscription instead? That’s right, out of the blue, PAYDAY 2 just announced that you can pay a monthly subscription for over 65+ DLC packs, rather than slowly buy them all outright.

PAYDAY 2 Is Getting a Subscription

That’s right, for just $5 a month, you can temporarily access most of the DLCs for Payday 2. The developers have quickly reassured fans that, despite introducing this new subscription, they will not alter the game or its existing DLCs. Their aim with this subscription is to provide a cost-effective option for players who are uncertain about their commitment to PAYDAY 2.

Is This an Out of Season April Fools’ Joke?

Fans are rightly confused as to why a game that came out in 2013 is now getting a subscription in the current year of 2025. While it is true that PAYDAY 2 does in fact have a mountain of DLC, and if you were to buy most of it without a Steam Sale, it would cost you around 250$. So sure, if you want to try out PAYDAY 2 for the very first time, it might make sense. However, if you have a friend who owns a Heist DLC that you don’t, you can still play it so long as they are the host.

While there is some positive in this change, the fanbase rightly remains confused and annoyed. With the failure of PAYDAY 3’s current development and its ever-dwindling player count, many fans are viewing this new subscription as a desperate attempt to boost sales for the more active and successful PAYDAY game.

What’s your take on this? Is it a solid idea for a successful game overflowing with DLC, or has this concept come too late? Be sure to let us know and keep an eye on our latest news as the story develops.
