Xbox boss Phil Spencer has dropped a few new hints about Hideo Kojima’s mysterious OD, suggesting the game’s vision might be far darker than players expect! On top of that, he also explained some setbacks that happened along the way!
“I Want to Make a Really Scary Game”

In a new Famitsu interview, Spencer shared what Kojima told him the first time they talked about OD.
“When I talked with Kojima about the new game, he shared some very bold ideas. And he said, ‘I want to make a really scary game.’”
According to Spencer, the Xbox Game Studios team and Kojima Productions have been working hand-in-hand on the project, mixing a ton of experimental gameplay ideas with really good technology.
The game is being developed in Unreal Engine, and Spencer said the latest footage left him “very happy” with its quality.
No Date Yet, and a Reason for the Delay
When asked about a possible release window, Spencer admitted that there is none just yet. Development has been moving forward, but progress slowed down after the 2023 SAG-A-FTRA strike. This made it hard to book proper filming sessions with the actors involved.
“Because of that, the game’s production faced some delays,” Spencer explained.
Despite all this, the work on OD has since picked up and continues in close collaboration between both studios.
A Project Born From Pure Horror
Since its first reveal, OD is described as a horror experience that will put your own fears to the test and push you to your limits. It will star Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier, but Kojima has kept quiet about how players will actually interact with the story.
What is clear now is that OD was built from the ground up with fear in mind. A “really scary game,” straight from Kojima’s own words. If the man behind Death Stranding is returning to horror, it is safe to say we are in for something unsettling.
As development continues, OD remains one of the most intriguing mysteries in Kojima’s career. It is a project born from fear itself, still hiding its true form for now. If OD delivers on that promise, we might be witnessing a new type of psychological horror!
