A recent developer interview is giving players a clearer idea of how Arknights: Endfield plans to handle its long-term story, and not everyone is sure how to feel about it.
In the weekly Famitsu issue No. 1931 from January 29, 2026, the team behind Endfield talked about their roadmap for the coming year. One detail stood out more than the rest! During the game’s first year, the main story will continue to unfold in Wuling, with progression structured across a year-long arc.
That likely means no new major region anytime soon.
A Full Year in One Region?
According to the translated interview, next year’s version plan has already been finalized, with some updates close to release. For now, the focus remains on Wuling. The developers explained that as the current crisis wraps up, the protagonist will meet new allies and important characters, but still within that same region.
They also mentioned that this structure is not exactly what they originally envisioned. Some ideas were not fully realized during development, and those may be added later on.
The most important detail, though, is that the main story is designed to evolve over the course of a year, with new mechanics and thematic elements layered into updates along the way.
That wording has led many players to interpret it as a “one year, one major arc” model.

Players Are Already Asking Questions
The reaction has not been outright negative, but it made people talk.
In many gacha games, major regions often last around a year. The problem is what happens in between. Smaller patches can sometimes feel like filler, updates that exist to maintain a schedule rather than meaningfully expand the world. That is where some of the concern comes from.
If Wuling is meant to carry the game for an entire year, will it expand significantly over time? Or will players end up waiting months for the next truly big change in progression?
Talking about progression, many players have already optimized their factories, cleared endgame content, and pushed their gear close to its limits. Spending a whole year in the same region often means that real content progression will slow down before the next zone, and players get bored.
To be fair, the developers did say that plans could change depending on development circumstances or player needs. The roadmap is not locked beyond adjustment. Maybe the next zone will last less time, or more.
For now, one thing seems clear: Wuling is not going anywhere anytime soon.
