Blizzard uploaded another World of Warcraft: Midnight gameplay video, showing a full clear of Sunkiller Sanctum, one of the ten upcoming Delves. At first, it looks like a standard preview, but the setup is what makes it interesting.
The run is done on a Retribution Paladin at item level 238, even though the recommended level for the Tier 8 Delve is 244. That difference might not sound large, but it can feel quite significant during the first few weeks of an expansion.
More Than Just A Gear Check
Instead of overpowering enemies, the run focuses on survival and control. Valeera is switched from healing to tanking, pulls are kept small, and abilities are timed room-to-room rather than used on cooldown. This approach is intentional.
Most of the difficulty comes from avoiding damage zones, interrupting casts, and keeping enemies manageable rather than racing a timer. Even the final encounters rely more on positioning and add handling than raw damage output.
Companions Are Very Important
Valeera ends up being central to the strategy. Shield talents keep her alive while the player focuses on damage and interrupts. This basically turns the encounter into a two-role setup instead of a solo run.
It shows that companions and their curio/skill choices are not just minor bonuses you can choose on a whim (we have all been there: “ah, this will do.”) Changing their role can completely alter how a Delve plays.
Delve Progression in Midnight
The video also confirms a progression path, mentioning the goal of reaching higher-tier Delves later on. Clearing Tier 8 under the recommended item level suggests players will, once again, be able to advance through mechanics and planning rather than waiting strictly for gear upgrades. For many players, that is part of the appeal.
Overall, this gameplay preview makes Delves feel less tied to item level and more like content that rewards careful play.
