On November 6, the official @Warcraft X account announced that WoW Forever is the biggest launch by peak concurrent players and that it drew the highest number of returning players in the game’s history…
On top of that Holy Longdale confirmed Blizzard is also seeing the most new players for a WoW launch in 15 years, which dates back to Cataclysm.
The Only Hard Numbers Blizzard Has Shared
While Blizzard didn’t share the actual peak, the previous record it beat, or how either was measured, we at least got some numbers tied to server hardware. Launch servers ran on 3,924 virtual machines (VMs), used more than 251K gigs of RAM and 70K CPU cores.
Twitch is the Only Apples-to-Apples Comparison
According to Streamscharts, WoW Forever launch drew 1.12 million peak concurrent viewers on Twitch compared to WoW Classic’s 1,132,957 viewers back in August 2019.
While Blizzard won’t reveal the exact subscriber count, we hope to find out more information at Microsoft’s FY27 Q1 earnings in January 2027.
How are you enjoying WoW Forever thus far?
