Diablo 2 is not getting another surprise new expansion anytime soon. But that has not stopped players from imagining what an Act 6 could look like. Especially since it feels like Blizzard might continue to update D2R after Reign of the Warlock. Breathing some new life into the game almost 25 years later made a lot of sense, and given how well received the DLC was, continuing that momentum with more content would not feel out of place.
On the topic of possible additions to D2R in the future, a recent Diablo 2 Resurrected discussion explored the idea of adding a completely new act. The concept is surprisingly grounded in classic Diablo logic rather than wild fantasy.
A Coastal Setting We Never Got
One of the biggest suggestions was simply to take the game somewhere it has never been.
So far, Diablo 2 has given us forests, deserts, jungles, mountains, and Hell itself. What it never explored was a true coastal region. Players suggested a western kingdom setting, with a port city hub like Kingsport or Bramwell. Imagine stormy cliffs, ruined harbors, and sea-facing fortresses instead of another inland biome. How cool would that be?
It would stand out visually, but still feel at home in Diablo’s darker tone.
Filling the Gap Before Diablo 3
Story-wise, the idea would also make a lot of sense.
By the end of Act 5, the Prime Evils are gone, and Sanctuary is left in a weakened state. That is where players think Belial and Azmodan could step in. Not as a random retcon, but as opportunists taking advantage of a world that just lost its biggest threats.
It would also line up very well with what we eventually see in Diablo 3, and keeps things consistent instead of rewriting history.
Structure And Variety
The layout of such a new zone could follow that classic Diablo rhythm. Multiple transition areas before reaching the main hub, optional side quests, and even short trips back into Hell for added variety.
There was also a small but interesting idea to expand dialogue for NPCs like Jamella and Halbu, so they react to new events. Nothing massive, just extra reactions to whatever is unfolding. It would not change the gameplay loop, but it would make the world feel a little less static.
Of course, this is all just wishful thinking for now. Nothing suggests Blizzard is planning an Act 6. But it does show that even decades later, players are still thinking about how Diablo 2’s world could grow.
If you could add one new act to Diablo 2, where would you set it?
