While we’ve been hearing news of The Elder Scrolls VI, it looks like Bethesda might finally turn its attention to Fallout 5, once that’s done.
Jez Corden, Windows Central reporter, said on the recent XB2 podcast that Fallout 5 has reportedly been approved by Microsoft.
”The program to expand Fallout 5… that’s where they’ve decided to make the investments,” Corden said.
It doesn’t confirm when the game will come out. But it’s clear we’ll hear more over the next few years as Fallout 5 enters active development.
Fallout 5 Is Not a Myth Anymore
The Fallout franchise gained renewed hype after the successful TV series, which premiered on Prime Video in 2024. Fans have been wondering if another Fallout game is coming since Fallout 4 (2015) and Fallout 76 (2018).
That said, Bethesda’s focus right now seems to be elsewhere. Most likely, it’s The Elder Scrolls VI, the long-awaited follow-up first teased in 2018.
It has reportedly been under development since the release of Starfield in 2023.

Not much is known about how far along The Elder Scrolls VI’s actually is. But it appears that once it’s done, Bethesda will be working on Fallout 5. It is also unclear whether Todd Howard will be directing it or not. Modern games take years to develop. And honestly, it wouldn’t be shocking if someone else directs it, or if it launches after 2030.
While we all wait for Fallout 5 together, we’ll also have our hands full with The Elder Scrolls VI. So that’s something to look forward to. On the bright side, you won’t have to wait as long for Season 2 of the Fallout TV show! It’s expected to drop in December 2025.
