Fellowship Gems Guide – Early Access Season 3

The Fellowship gems system is a powerful way to customize and strengthen your character. Specifically, it offers unique bonuses and paths depending on your hero’s needs and your playstyle. Once you reach Contender 4, you will have a chance to earn gems as end-of-dungeon rewards.

Additionally, when you enter Adept League, your loot can drop with gem sockets. Epic rarity Cloaks, Wrists, Rings and Legendary items have sockets for a total of 4. These gems provide flat, passive bonuses from simple stat boosts to powerful conditional effects, and their power scales the further you invest in each color track.

Regarding limitations, the 92 gem cap was removed in Early Access Season 3.

Gems are character specific and not shared account-wide, meaning you will need to gather them on each hero individually.

Confused? Don’t worry, we’ll walk you through every detail of the gem progression.

Fellowship Gems Tiers

Gems have four different tiers that range from Small to Flawless, with each tier providing additional gem power at every increase.

GemsTierGem Power
Small150
Large250
Splendid350
Flawless500
Every color has a gem in every tier

You can only obtain Small gems from dungeon drops, however you can combine three gems of the same color and tier to create a gem of a higher tier. For example, 3 Small Rubies create Large Ruby, and 3 Splendid Emeralds create a Flawless Emerald.

3 Small Rubies create a Large Ruby. 3 Splendid Emeralds create a Flawless Emerald.

Fellowship Gems – Jeweler

The jeweler is where you can upgrade your gems into higher tiers, as well as split high tier gems into their lesser tier counterparts. Additionally, you’ll be able to do several transmutations to make getting the gems you want easier.

  • Unstable Aether: Fuse 3 gems together to transmute a gem into a random other color.
  • Imbued Aether: Transmute a gem into a choice of three random colors.
  • Arcane Aether: Transmute a gem into a choice of any color.

Master Craftsman Braggi

Preseason 2 introduces “Gem Budding”, a new system for Fellowship gems. This system allows players to convert Aethers, and Godstones of the same rarity into copies of a small gem.

  • Monopod: Creates one small gem in exchange for uncommon ingredients.
  • Double Bloom: Creates two small gems in exchange for rare ingredients.
  • Threefold Propagation: Creates three small gems in exchange for epic ingredients.

While this addition is great for targeting specific gem colors with extra resources, the biggest benefit is for alts. In the previous season, alts had to repeat the same dungeon farming process as your main character. Now, however, your alt can utilize the account wide resources to expedite their gem acquisition.

Check out everything Master Craftsman Braggi offers in our vendor section of our Beginners Guide.

Storekeeper Keiren – Resources Vendor

The Resources vendor in the Stronghold allows you to purchase gems with Marks of Fellowship, costing 5 marks per gem. This vendor also lets you convert Supplies into Marks.

This lets you acquire gems at a faster rate. It also means that while gems do not transfer to other characters, you can save up Marks of Fellowship and buy gems outright.

Fellowship Gems – Dungeon Drops

As mentioned earlier, gems begin dropping in Contender 4, however you’ll quickly notice that you’re only getting Small Gems. This is intentional. As you progress, you’ll want to upgrade your gems to higher tiers. Your chance of gaining a gem from end-of-dungeon rewards will increase with the difficulty of the dungeons you’re doing.

Fellowship Gems – Sockets

Gem sockets start appearing on Epic accessories (Capes, Rings, and Wrists) once you’re in Adept league. Placing a gem into a socket will grants your hero with Gem Power equal to the amount that tier of gem provides.

As of Early Access Season 3, these 4 slots of accessories are guaranteed to have a socket at Epic rarity and higher, eliminating the need to grind for specific pieces of items with rolled sockets. There is also no longer an Essence Bonus on sockets, including on legendary sockets.

Fellowship Gems – Imbued Essence

In Early Access Season 3, gear can now have the Imbued Essence buff in their Modifier Slots. This gives +100 Gem Power of a random gem color, without requiring a gem. Items can have a maximum of +200 Gem Power.

Keep in mind that this effect would be in place of perhaps a Trait or Blessing, so it needs to be carefully considered with other options when constructing a full build.

Fellowship Gems – Seal of the Heskyr

A new 2-set bonus has been added in Early Access Season 3, found in Ruins of Ragath and Scryer’s Peak (New 1-boss adventure dungeons). This set grants +25% Gem Power from all sources, including Imbued Essence and socketed gems.

With this set, Flawless gems are worth 625 and Imbued Essence is worth 125.

Gem Power

When you open your character sheet, you’ll see three tabs at the bottom. By default, the first tab is your stats and inventory. Switching to the Talents tab is where you choose and edit your talent setup. Finally, the Gem Power tab tracks your current Gem Power, total gem count, and all unlocked abilities.

Each gem color has its own column and theme, which creates more opportunities for choice and build diversity. Cost increments grow at later stages, with higher level nodes requiring more than the lower ones, but giving stronger effects.

The track consists of two ranks of five effects plus a final overcap node. Rank 1 is the first five effects, while Rank 2 contains the second five, which replace and significantly improve upon the previous ones.

Gems Power While Levelling

When still climbing the leagues with a lack of gems and currency, it’s generally best to go for a Rainbow Setup and spread your low-level gems wider into different color sockets. This will give you the most value until you can start stacking up into one or two of your hero’s preferred gem colors.

Be sure to regularly purchase marks using supplies from the resources vendor, and buy gems with the marks if you aren’t saving them for another character.

As you accrue a larger stock of gems, visit the Jeweller and start to combine them. If you want to reroll to another color gem, it’s more cost effective to combine first to as high as you reasonably can, and then re-rolling.

Fellowship Full Best in Slot Gem Builds

Because Gem effects are so powerful, full gem builds often include some extra gem power and the Seal of the Heskyr set. With this set, you can reach the 6th bonus (the first Rank 2 node) with one Flawless Gem (625), or you can reach the final bonus with two Flawless Gems and two Imbued Essence. (625 + 625 + 125 + 125 = 1500)

Another way to look at it, is that the set bonus provides an extra ~500 Gem Power for only two Modifier Slots. This is a very high value return, so you’ll find it in most – if not all – best in slot builds.

With the set, you can have the following loadouts:

  • 4x 6-nodes with 1 Flawless Gems of each color and 0 Imbued Essence (Rainbow)
  • 1x 10-node with 2 Flawless Gems + 2 Imbued essence, 2x 6-nodes with 1 Flawless Gem
  • 2x 10-nodes with 2 Flawless Gems each and 2 Imbued Essence each

If your build prefers Traits and Blessings over gem power, you could opt for the following:

  • 1x 10-node with 3 Flawless Gems, and 1x 6-node with 1x Flawless Gem + 1 Imbued Essence.
  • 2x 8-nodes with 2 Flawless Gems each
