Rockstar Games is apparently making major progress in developing GTA VI’s multiplayer mode, which could completely change the way players experience the Grand Theft Auto franchise online. According to a report published on Medium by French writer Fravilys, who mentions a source close to Rockstar, the next version of GTA Online, called “GTA6MP“, is already in an advanced stage of development.
This insider information offers a picture of a really improved multiplayer world, mixing new network tech with an ambitious player experience idea.
A Cloud-Based Beginning

Originally, GTA6MP was designed around a cloud-gaming model, which was meant to reduce latency and deliver a smoother, more connected experience.
However, after the shutdown of Google Stadia in early 2023, Rockstar might have stepped back from fully cloud-based plans. Despite this, services like Xbox Cloud Gaming have shown that this approach can be good, which means Rockstar could still keep some cloud features.
“Fluid Access”: Rockstar’s Answer to Seamless Multiplayer
One of the most notable improvements mentioned in the leak is something internally called “Fluid Access”: a revamped network layer built on a semi-peer-to-peer architecture. This system would eliminate the usual disconnect between sessions, allowing players to encounter others and take part in activities across different instances without loading screens or manual invites.
In practical terms, this could mean:
- Starting races, heists, or missions with players from other sessions without leaving your own world
- No more long waits in menus or lobbies
- An open world where transitions between solo play and multiplayer feel instant
Larger, More Immersive Sessions

GTA6MP reportedly aims to support up to 96 players per session, nearly doubling the 32-player limit of current GTA Online lobbies. However, the source adds that the current build is capped at 64 players, indicating Rockstar may still be fine-tuning the performance and stability at higher player counts.
But even 64 players is already a pretty good number!
The original leak does note that these plans are based on development info that may have since changed. As with any live development project, especially one as secret and ambitious as GTA VI, technical or strategic adjustments are always possible.
Still, the core vision is clear: a faster, smoother, more social online GTA experience that breaks the boundaries set by the current GTA Online.
