Let’s face it—Mythic+ in The War Within Season 1 has some serious issues, and the community is feeling the pain. From punishing mechanics to frustrating gearing systems, players are asking for changes to make this cornerstone feature more enjoyable.
With Season 2 on the horizon, now’s the perfect time to address these hurdles. Here’s a breakdown of the biggest pain points and how Blizzard can improve Mythic+ in time for the next season, based on Quazii‘s latest video!

Too Much Pain and Punishment!
Mythic+ is meant to challenge players, but the current system feels overly punishing, discouraging participation…
- Challenger’s Peril Penalty: Players fear making mistakes more than ever because each wipe is 1.5 minutes off the timer (death + runback). This motivates everyone to invite Meta specs. Since mistakes are way more costly, nobody wants to play tanks and healers (explained later in the article).
- Runbacks feel very punishing right now. Adding more resurrection points after each boss would improve the flow of dungeons, resulting in less time lost after wipes.
- While key depletion adds stakes, it can feel harsh. Allowing 2 charges for lower keys (below +12) or removing reduced Crest rewards for depleted keys could motivate players to finish their runs.
The Cost of Mythic+
Mythic+ is expensive. Players need to buy flasks, food, and weapon oils while only getting 50 Gold per run. A few solutions include:
- Introducing NPCs at the end of dungeons to provide free repairs.
- Increasing gold rewards for completed runs.
- Adding partial refunds for consumables used during failed attempts.
Gearing Issues: Crest and Crafting Concerns
The Mythic+ gearing system is overly restrictive and unfriendly to alts:
- Removing Valorstones or allowing their transfer across characters could make gearing smoother for alts.
- High-key players (+13 or higher) should see increased crest drops to alleviate scarcity issues.
- Creating 636 item level gear currently requires 7.5 mythic+ keys worth of resources. Reducing the crafting costs would make gear progression feel less grindy.
- The Harbinger achievement for Gilded Crests requires item level 639, a threshold that takes weeks to reach. Lowering this to 636 would encourage alt play and make Crest discounts more accessible.
Poor Dungeon Design
Unpopular dungeons continue to return to the Mythic+ rotation, frustrating players.
- Siege of Boralus was not well-received in The War Within Season 1.
- Mechagon: Workshop is making its third return in The War Within Season 2.
- Tedious mechanics like the Darkflame Cleft minecart RP should be removed.
The Tank and Healer Crisis
The shortage of tanks and healers in Mythic+ is reaching critical levels, and the reasons are clear:
High Tank Pressure
The current dungeons have too many tank busters, just to mention a few.
- Grim Batol
- Flamerender slashes every 18 seconds, x2 in some packs.
- Molten Giants cast Lava Fist every 15 seconds.
- Enforcer has enraged stacks and swings.
- The Stonevault
- Despoiler: Shadowclaw every 13 seconds.
- Machinist Boss: Igneous Hammer every 12 seconds.
- City of Threads
- Krixvizk: Casts Subjugate every 13 seconds.
- The Dawnbreaker
- Shadowcrown Boss casts Obsidian Beam every 25 seconds.
- Mists of Tirna Scithe
- Guardian Mobs: Anima Slashes every 12 seconds, x2 in some packs.
Every tank death results in a group wipe, costing 1.5 minutes from the timer. This, combined with the constant blame from group members, discourages tank participation.
Difficult Healing Dynamics
- Healing feels punishing, with tanks dropping from 100 to 0 health due to a single missed GCD.
- Every other pack features some sort of AoE damage, making it hard for healers to keep up.
- Likewise, healers get blamed for bricking keys.
Solutions for Tank and Healer Shortages
- Reduce penalties for tank deaths.
- Reduce the packs with AoE damage so tanks can pull more mobs.
- Bring back buff scrolls and improve drums to open up more team comps.
Too Much DPS, Not Enough Groups
With so few tanks and healers in the Group Finder, DPS players are stuck in endless queues.
Rewards Need Improvement
Mythic+ rewards need more variety to maintain player engagement:
- Introduce cosmetics like challenge-mode sets and mounts.
- Add tokens for targeted slot upgrades, allowing players to upgrade gear more predictably.
- Create incentives for seasonal participation, like exclusive pets or housing furniture.
