Arknights: Endfield has released its first official web comic, The Promise, now available to read for free on the game’s official website. You might want to make sure you head to the English version of the website, as it does not seem to be available in all languages.
The short comic is not just a light slice-of-life bonus. It nicely expands on Endfield’s timeline and gives important context to Perlica’s relationship with the Endmin before the events of the game.
Heads up! The following news does contain some spoilers about the comic, so you might want to go read it first.
A Story Set Before the Awakening
“The Promise” takes place a few weeks before the Endmin awakens.
The crew aboard the Dijiang is preparing for the wake-up program to conclude, and characters speak about the Endmin as someone currently absent. Chen is even shown asking Andre if the Endmin is really as capable as Perlica claims, confirming she has never actually met him before.
The comic goes over Perlica’s past and ends just as she enters the awakening chamber.
In other words, this is a direct lead-in to the game’s starting point.
Perlica’s Past and the Zeroth Directive

Where the comic becomes more interesting is its focus on Perlica. We learn she was saved by the Endmin in the past and brought aboard the Dijiang as a child. Even then, she was already highly intelligent and helping solve operational problems.
The story reinforces that she remains on the ship to carry out his wishes, specifically around the Zeroth Directive and the development of the AIC.
After the Endmin enters his dormant state, M3 takes over operations, but it is clear Perlica struggles with his absence. She holds onto a gift meant for him and continues working toward the promise he made to her, to one day show her the North.
The AIC’s construction, in the end, feels more personal than purely strategic.
More Than Just a Cute Side Story
Yes, there are lighter moments, like Chen delivering buns, playful banter about overdue reports, Perlica teasing Chen, but the comic ultimately strengthens the emotional link between Endfield’s main characters.

The Dijang is like a home, and it heavily emphasizes that aspect. In the same way that the Endmin gave Perlica a home, when he awakens, she reminds him that this is his home, too.
For a free web comic, it does give more information than expected.
And importantly, it is fully accessible. No purchase required, no event lock. Just official lore available to everyone. So go read it!
