Rolling a new alt is like a ritual. You choose your class and race, customise your character, and pick a name. You enter the game—but before you pick up your first quest, before you even take your first step, there is one thing that absolutely, categorically, must be done every single time.
You turn on Auto Loot.
And thus, creating a new alt has followed the same pattern since Auto Loot was added to the game. But things are changing. From Patch 12.1, enabling Auto Loot will be account-wide.
Of course, this has reignited discussion around other elements of the game that are not yet account-wide. For now, though, Auto Loot stands as a small step in a bigger effort to reduce friction for alts. Whether other systems follow—especially changes like legacy reputations, currencies, and broader account-wide settings—remains to be seen.
