If you have been struggling with stuttering, lag, or even crashes in Ashes of Creation, it appears you are not alone. These problems are not new, and it is quite understandable that there is a lot of optimization yet to be done, as the game is still in alpha. However, a recent thread on Reddit has brought new attention to some serious performance issues, with players reporting that the game runs very poorly – even on high-end setups.
One player with a 5800X3D, RTX 3070, and 32GB of RAM mentioned that Star Citizen (yes, Star Citizen!) runs better than Ashes of Creation in its current state. Other players then chimed in, saying they are also dealing with low frame rates, stuttering, and random crashes despite having good hardware:
A few common issues players are running into:
- Severe stuttering & FPS drops even on NVMe drives and high-end rigs
- Crashes near points of interest, like the Tower of Carphin
- Out-of-memory errors forcing players to lower settings drastically
- Weird launcher issues, with one player saying the game tried running on their HDD instead of their NVMe
Luckily, some users have found temporary fixes, like reinstalling the game and launcher or adjusting graphic settings, but there is no guaranteed solution yet. Even though some players say performance improved for them over the last few weeks, it seems others are still struggling.
At this point, it looks like the latest patch may have made things worse for some players – so hopefully, Intrepid Studios is already looking into it!
